On some level I object to the whole sportspeople / role model / political correctness thing.

If one of the players comes off, sucks down a quick cigarette on camera and washes it down with a stubby of XXXX and turns to the girls in the front row of crowd and says something dirty about which one he wants to take home after the game, I don't really care.

This new tactic by desperate neer-do-wells, who have no idea about the discipline of statistics, and that all sampling companies are under legal constraint to work honestly, now trying to bring a particular pollster into disrepute shows up their childish need to win arguments.

Its a first, on OLO at least, for bunnies who have never called into question any of the pollsters whose results they choose to believe.

The old bloke seen a set of figures to his liking, put out by the far right Institute of Public Affairs. What the old bloke can't do is provide the methodology used to come up with the result. I doubt he can answer simple questions; How many people were contacted by the American phone survey business Dynata to give an opinion, and how many declined (hung up) without indicating a preference one way or the other? ttbn can you provide an answer to those questions. Me thinks not!

Don't be so pessimistic, I don't think Australia is going down the drain. The rest of the world might be, but not Australia, well not this week. Having Aunty or Uncle stand up and utter the good old 'Welcome to Country" isn't sending us to hell, but failures to adequately address economic and social problems that Aboriginal people face everyday is to our detriment, and that's the real issue.
