The posted data from this survey does surprise me, for example; "72% of 18-24 year olds want it gone." given that 28% either want it retained, or are ambivalent. With the known progressive voting patterns of that particular cohort, that would suggest that they would be more likely to be in agreement with "welcome to country", not opposed. I would like to see the source data, methodology, sampling size etc used, as JD has pointed out. It is very easy to get the result you want from phone surveys, simply by discounting the vast majority who don't give an answer, and hang up in your ear. I suspect the "72%" is derived after discounting the 90% who didn't respond at all.

Whenever questioned ttbn flies into a rage of insult. Why not simply provide more substance for your "survey", then others might take what you say seriously.

Spot on AC, but after all the wtc/AOC over the past years I think I've turned on the idea of any ritual being forced on people. Wasn't a council worker dismissed for not playing the game?

Hi Fester,
Hadn't heard about it so I looked it up.
Was it this - A street sweeper employee?

Court win for Melbourne worker who snubbed a land acknowledgement
http://youtu.be/7HtFUqLxXpw

What I thought was interesting was the statement from Darebin council.
"At council we have an ongoing commitment to recognise, respect and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures in the community and our organisation."
- Torres Strait is 3000 klms from Melbourne.
They say it like it's the 'expected' thing to say without actually thinking about it.

I live in Brisbane, maybe I should pay my respects to the people of Fiji.
They are closer to me than Melbourne is to the Torres Strait.

Hi AC and Fester,

The woman is entitled to her opinion, and in some respects I agree that the "Welcome to Country" is overdone. I see in the comments; "Most of us have had a gut full!" Who are MOST, if a person is so sensitive that's them. In a year I might be subjected to such a welcome for 5 minutes in total, I can live with that.
