Tuberculosis was a problem in Australia until a national campaign from 1950 to 1976, when it became a “forgotten disease”.

Now it is back, most cases being detected in immigrants, mainly those from the Asian-Pacific region, sub-Saharan Africa. People from countries like India, Philippines, China and Nepal are also listed as “source countries”.

Maybe. But, there is no shortage of reports on the slapdash nature of immigration under the current government.

Whatever the truth is, there has been a TB scare at a Sydney childcare centre, where a ‘person’ was reported by the 9 News Network as having been infected with the “Third World” disease. As a result, children and staff at the Little Feet Early Learning and Childcare needed to have a “makeshift” test for TB. That brought back memories of a primary school ttbn, stripped down to his Chesty Bond singlet, having his puny chest pushed up against a screen by a nasty old-maid teacher, in the days before TB became just a memory in Australia.

Parents don't know whether the infected person was a staff member or a child. So there is no way that anyone will find out whether the infected person was a long-time Australian or an immigrant who, along with who knows how many others, have brought us a problem that we haven't had in this country for 55 years.

I know it's monotonous, but, import the Third World, become the Third World. Or, at least employ immigration officials who know what they are doing. There's no point in expecting politicians to do anything.

Again, don't blame the immigrant: blame the Australian political class and its out of control, inept rush to stuff Australia with people who would once not have been allowed in.

“There are about 500 active cases (of TB) in NSW, most of whom were infected abroad”. I'm interpreting those weasel words to mean that about 500 sufferers were immigrants.
