Indy,

"Useable productivity is the key component !" That's right, why are you still supporting aged welfare payments to non productive's such as yourself, you are never going to be productive as it is now, just a drain on society. Now, if we were to introduce a 'Seniors National Service' for your type, you could still contribute, and then there would be a saving to us struggling taxpayers of $40 billion a year. A win win situation for all! Don't take this the wrong way, there will be a need to set up, to borrow a Russian word, "Gulags" they will be merely rest and educational camps for those participating in the Seniors National Service program, you will be accommodated in a very comfortable 12' x 8' army surplus tent with 5 or 6 others of your type. That in itself will save on blankets in the winter. Do you agree?

WhiteMouse,

Thank you for your interest in my career path.
I wouldn't describe my career
path as "grandiose". Just wide and varied.
As I'm sure can be said of many people - who,
for whatever reasons take the jobs they can get.

There's nothing wrong with being a cleaner. My father
was an academic, yet he was forced to work in a rubber
factory because when they arrived in this country as
displaced persons - their qualifications were not
recognized. Lucky for me, my parents believed
in the importance of education, and gave me and pushed
me towards higher education. They sacrificed a lot.

I've had a variety of jobs as I've written earlier.
Predominantly as a Reference Librarian, a Youth
Services Librarian, a Library Manager, in special, large
Municipal, regional public, and university libraries as
well as a researcher, educator, Storyteller, author,
and consultant.

I've worn many hats. And I've been lucky enough to have
had the love and support of my parents, family, and
especially my husband. We've travelled widely and met
people from many cultures.

And even though I am retired now - hopefully -
I still continue to learn and to grow.

I often still run into people who remember the work I did
to help them.

Life can be satisfying.

Cheers.

There are thousands of non-productives "employed" in all levels of Government & they'll receive even more in Superannuation than any old age pensioners now.
So, it boils down to the fact that some now non-productives have already contributed to society whilst way more will never contribute !
Sound familiar Paul1405 ?

Indyvidual,

There are many people employed in all sorts of
jobs and professions - government and private -
who may or may not be what you would call
"productive". Their employers are their judges
on that score. Unproductive people usually don't
last long in their jobs.

Foxy,
Private enterprise can't afford them. Public Service Unions depend on them !
