As an alternative I would suggest that we all have beliefs that turn out to be wrong. Some people hold to their beliefs when they think a good outcome will result. That is conviction, not lying. Look at all the argument John Snow got into about cholera. He wasn't arguing with liars. A liar is someone who flashes a picture of a three eyed koala as proof of the dangers of nuclear power. A person of conviction is someone who wants to preserve the environment but destroys it with the construction of wind and solar farms. There is a difference between the two.
