Defence writer Daniel Depetris, pondering the effects of the Trump election on America's allies and US foreign policy refers back to 2016, when Trump's demands that countries reliant on America for their defence were sent scuttling to do more for themselves.

Depetris suggests that Israel will be given “free rein” to go after its enemies; and Ukraine should be “terrified” because Trump has always been alarmed by the amount of money “wasted” on that country.

The author has his ideas of what Trump ‘should’ do:

. Depriotise the Middle East. There are about 43,000 military personnel there, while the Biden plan for Israel has been “contradictory” - talking ‘ceasefires’ while continuing to send weapons to Israel. “Counterproductive”.

. 2,500 troops should be removed from Iraq. Leave it to the locals.

. “Rhetoric” on Ukraine needs to shift to action. Get “tough” with Zelenskyy and Putin.

. “Solidify” communications with China. Interdependence can't be breached.

Nothing on getting countries like Australia to pull their weight on defence, but given the way both our Ambassador Rudd and Albanese have spoken about Trump - and our sheer laziness about our own defence, we might not figure much in Trump's plans.

It would be good if some of those troops in the Middle East were moved to Northern Australia. Part of the suggestions of Stategic Analysis Australia is to invite the US to move 16,000 marines there.

Albanese says that he is looking forward to working with President Trump, but he would need to sack Rudd as well as apologising for his own past comments, and improve his manners and pay much more attention to helping ourselves defence-wise if we want continued help from the US.

Of course, if Labor is a one-term wonder, we will have much less to worry about.

Currently, we are virtually defenceless. We need America.

You're not making any sense.
Foxy,
I know you understand, you et al just can't afford to admit it.

I don't understand why all you're interested in
is condemnation. It makes a conversation difficult
and depressing. For that reason - I'm out.

Foxy,
Why do you always state the wrong ? It's not condemnation at all, it's fact !
Ever heard of Thomas Sowell who said;
There have always been ignorant people, but they haven't always had college degrees to make them unaware of their ignorance. Some people imagine that they're well informed because they have memorised a whole galaxy of trendy dogmas & fashionable attitudes.
Surely that sounds very familiar to you ?

Indyvidual,

You don't make sense. You don't seem to understand what
I posted earlier. Education is not just about filling your
brain with facts. It's a process of development, of learning
and reaching our full potential. Of learning skills for the
jobs we want, and trying to find solutions to different
problems.

I also pointed out to you that not everyone has the same
experience of education. That not all schools, colleges,
or universities are the same. That not all students and
families are the same and that not everyone learns the
same way.

I pointed out that people can learn and grow in many ways
outside of classrooms. Travelling to new places, meeting
different people, watching a really great film or reading a
book that makes you think. And so on.

That is why it is important for people to have access to
education that is right for each of us as individuals so that
we can reach our full potential.

In any case - I can only take responsibility for what I post.
Not for your lack of understanding of what I post.

No point in continuing this conversation.
