A former NZ Greens MP faces up to seven years in prison after admitting four counts of shoplifting on three separate occasions.

Golriz Ghahraman, a former United Nations lawyer, stole nearly $9,000 worth of clothing in Auckland and Wellington in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Auckland District Court has heard.

Ms Ghahraman, 43, resigned from parliament in January when the shoplifting first became public, blaming her mental health, which she said had been affected by the stresses of her job.
"It's not a behaviour I can explain because it's not rational in any way, and after medical evaluation, I understand I'm not well," she said at the time.

However court documents released on Wednesday reveal the brazen nature of the shoplifting, including taking a number of items into a changing room then returning some of them to the store racks before leaving with the stolen items in her tote bag.

She will have to live with the results of her actions.
The impact on her career, reputation, and wellbeing will be quite high one would think.
And obviously she didn't get to keep the expensive clothes.

The stresses of a well-paid job ? How about the stresses of a blue collar family man who lost his job because of those well-paid buraudroids ?
No hundred's of thousands of Dollars in the Bank to fall back on. If he swiped a packet of biscuits for his kids he'll be prosecuted to no end in a court case the costs of which would feed several families for years.

This thread just highlights the Green's sense of entitlement. The greens in Aus are no better.

Political ideology, no matter how daft, does not cause people to commit crimes, or bring on kleptomania, as this woman seemed to be suggesting she suffers. She did what she did because of what she is. Nothing to do with her Green politics.

Bill Hayden's wife was a kleptomaniac. Nobody linked that to Labor dogma.
