A former NZ Greens MP faces up to seven years in prison after admitting four counts of shoplifting on three separate occasions.

Golriz Ghahraman, a former United Nations lawyer, stole nearly $9,000 worth of clothing in Auckland and Wellington in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Auckland District Court has heard.

Ms Ghahraman, 43, resigned from parliament in January when the shoplifting first became public, blaming her mental health, which she said had been affected by the stresses of her job.
"It's not a behaviour I can explain because it's not rational in any way, and after medical evaluation, I understand I'm not well," she said at the time.

However court documents released on Wednesday reveal the brazen nature of the shoplifting, including taking a number of items into a changing room then returning some of them to the store racks before leaving with the stolen items in her tote bag.

She will have to live with the results of her actions.
The impact on her career, reputation, and wellbeing will be quite high one would think.
And obviously she didn't get to keep the expensive clothes.

The stresses of a well-paid job ? How about the stresses of a blue collar family man who lost his job because of those well-paid buraudroids ?
No hundred's of thousands of Dollars in the Bank to fall back on. If he swiped a packet of biscuits for his kids he'll be prosecuted to no end in a court case the costs of which would feed several families for years.

This thread just highlights the Green's sense of entitlement. The greens in Aus are no better.

Political ideology, no matter how daft, does not cause people to commit crimes, or bring on kleptomania, as this woman seemed to be suggesting she suffers. She did what she did because of what she is. Nothing to do with her Green politics.

Bill Hayden's wife was a kleptomaniac. Nobody linked that to Labor dogma.

Shadow Minister,

Why are you picking on a politician in New Zealand?

Don't we have scandalous political behaviour
on our own shores with much bigger stakes involved?
Larger sums of money and even treason and lets not even
mention sex.

Foxy,

Yes, there is lots of criminal/unethical activity in Australian greens and Labor.

Shadow Minister,

I'm a glass half-full kind of gal.
I don't look for negativity or criminal behaviour. I prefer
positive behaviour and good policies - which if we
look carefully can be found in nearly all political
parties. It makes it easier to decide who to vote
for.

Former LNP councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden who is up on a murder charge for killing his step-father is running again tomorrow for a seat on the Gold Coast Council. Taxpayers have already forked out $200,000 to pay an advisor to GCC as the accused councillor cannot site on the council. The $200k advisor has no voting rights on the council. If Lumsden is re-elected then the taxpayers will continue to pay for a non voting advisor in Lumden's place. So nice over here in NZ.

So the foul-mouthed village idiot tries to dredge up some drivel you really are a representative of the green slime.

Meanwhile, another Green MP gets done for slavery.

Like to see Adrian Schrinner re-elected as Lord Mayor of Brisbane for another term. A clean skin in my opinion is Adrian, no crimes committed that I know of.

is it really important that she was a member of the Greens? Why make assumptions about her reasoning or the state of her mental health? It is sloppy thinking to link the crime with her ideology. Does that mean that Christian Porter's transgressions were a product of being a Liberal? What about the corrupt behaviour of Labor politicians in WA and NSW - is that a product of their ideology? In the context of this discussion ideology is irrelevant - leave it to our judicial system to sort out.

Baygon,

What transgressions did Porter make, even the ABC is backpedalling from any claim.

ttbn -even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Shadow Minister as far as Porter is concerned I do not make a distinction between illegal acts and unethical behaviour.

The Botched Backyard Operation
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-17/nsw-police-shot-western-sydney-man-bradley-balzan-inquest/103592578
A young man died a violent death in his own backyard. Some are calling it “the worst outcome imaginable of proactive policing”.

I think the parents take on events are pretty reasonable.
I think the cops targeted this bloke for wearing a hoodie, chased him home to detain him when they had no cause.
(Where does 'Disobey the direction of a police officer' come into it?)
- Found themselves in the mans fully fenced backyard
- Police are attacking the dogs owner so it defends its master and bites police
- Then, cop points gun at dog...

Did the young man then grab the gun from cop pointing it at the dog?
Then other cop sees him with the officers firearm and shoots him?

- Seems pretty plausible to me.

Honestly some people really do care about their pets, even more than they care about their own life.
You point a weapon at their pet and they're not going to do nothing.

And I can attest to wearing a hoodie on a 30+ degree summer day.
And then walking around the house half naked in winter in boxing shorts.

Sure, people in hoodies can look a little suspicious.
But that's just the style of clothing that covers a side and rear view of your hair and face.
It doesn't necessarily mean that someone IS doing something suspicious or that they WILL commit a crime at some point;
- Some people just really like wearing hoodies.

Though many people who ACTUALLY ARE doing suspicious things including crimes probably also like to wear them.

'Cry Baby' Porter was well known for frequenting the fleshpots of Canberra on a Friday and Saturday night, trawling for young women looking for a good time, whilst the "little woman" was 2,000 miles away keeping the home fires burning. The bloke had a "reputation" for it. At least Barnyard Joy limited it to the office girl. Well that's what he told the misses!.

A failed candidate is called a "senor green" must be a joke. What should we call a politician who has been in the position of acting PM. Yep, we all know the bloke, the one found in the gutter out of it, high on drugs and alcohol. Now he's "on leave" no doubt in some rehab centre for the chronically addicted!

How upsetting for some, the accused murderer from the NOALITION Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden failed to win his seat back on the Gold Coast Council, saving the ratepayers $2 million in payments for a non voting adviser to sit in Lumsden's place on the council and advise the accused of what was talked about during council meetings! Where did the adviser have to go to chew the fat with Lumsden, down to his prison cell?

This is interesting... I suppose if the political party encourages it's people to have the following attributes then individual criminal behavior could theoretically be based on ideology... but it could be hard to prove... but I think that there are toxic ideologies.

The Texas Christian University Criminal Thinking Scales (TCU CTS; Knight et al., 2006) is a brief (self-rating) instrument developed to assess cognitive functioning expected to be related to criminal conduct. The TCU CTS is a supplement to the TCU CJ-CESI and CJ-CEST and is designed to measure “criminal thinking” (Knight et al., in press). It was adapted from original work by Walters (1995) and from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) "Survey of Program Participants".

Using the criterion of retaining factors with an eigenvalue greater than 1.0 resulted in a four-factor solution, distributed across the following scales: Entitlement, Justification, Personal Irresponsibility, Power Orientation, Cold Heartedness, and Criminal Rationalization.

12% SWING against the LIBERAL PARTY in the Tasmanian election on Saturday. They are so on the nose down there that you can smell em' as far away as Queensland. gains by 'The Greens' and the 'Jacqui Lambie Network'. Dud Dutton should take note!

Must say, although a bit conservative at times, like The Mad Katter here in Queensland, I have a political soft spot for Jacqui, she seems a rather genuine person.

In another blow to the on the nose NOALITION and Dud Dutton, LABOR took the SA state seat of Dunstan from them at the weekend, thanks to a 9% swing mostly to the GREENS. First time in 100 years has a Government in SA won a seat off the Opposition in a by-election.
