Flu is not the biggest killer. Road Accidents would beat it by thousands.

This latest Pandemic Scare is fed by a bored Media with little else to do but feed the Hype. Recommend injections & tablets to combat yet another variety of a mutating virus that has Scientists from all Countries adding to the dilemma with their by experimenting with man & animal varieties. There has to be a common denominator with the virus springing up in a wide variety of places, my guess it is in the Inoculations that have been derived from animals, not necessarily directly from the porcine. I may have tagged along with another viral preventative overlooked by Clever Scientists…

Governments are damned if they do and damned if they don't in these sorts of scenarios.

Compared to some media reports governments, with some exceptions from the states, have been pretty even-handed about swine flu and have said there is no need to panic.

Better to be prepared in event of further developments but to keep things in perspective.

I would not agree that hysteria is at fever pitch.

We have to hope this one fizzles out, and that Governments do everything they can to stop it. However, on a lighter note, it may be that it will fade from our view due to the banal label, Swine Flu. It is hard to say it out loud without sounding like someone out of Fawlty Towers.
If, however, it had a decent attention-grabbing name it might get a longer hang time in the media. Perhaps

Global Porcine Pandemic or
Global Porcine Pestilence, for the biblically-minded

After the success of the GFC, nothing but the word Global will suffice.
