Here we go again. Just when we thought it was safe to go outside, the threat of another potential flu pandemic raises its head.

We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, it's another good 'scare the silly buggers' campaign for governments. Takes our minds off government bungling in a number of areas, and gives them the chance to put us under more control by saying, "We'll save you."

I agree ...it would unwise to write this off as just another scare campaign just yet. The virus could mutate and become more of a problem, it's too early to tell. Taking precautions is a good thing...after all, once it gets hold it's too late. I'm trying to hold back cycnicism about politicians / opportunists for a while.

its a conveniant destraction from the economic collapse, the vector is fly blown,..from huge pig farms owned by the king of the world..[mr wrathchild/rothchild]..

who also owns suprise suprise the media and banking and insurance industries,..via many tricky deceptions.. crossholdings and controls over the holding companies

see that all the actuial stocks and shares are suposedly held by an imf shelf company..[who holds 23 trillion worth of real share's,..conveniantly the worlds trades get settled through the imf fund's shelf companies, but take the shelf company holding the 23 trillion in share..that generates 3/4 of a trillion in tade..[it holds a debt[to mr wrathchild,..of near 22 trillion[clever scam eh]

anyhow the mexican..[swine/bird/human hybred/flue is a weopenised re-combo of 3 prior flues, read previous posts..and is spread not airborn not human to human,as the world heath arm of the wrathchild dynasty declares,

but transmitted by a darn fly..[his media hypes the infection rate while the death toll is near nothing..[less than 10 confirmed swine flue deaths are reported]yet expect compulsory vacinations..

[just like they did..to get all them millions dying early last century[read up on the spanish bird flue]..the last time the economy 'collapsed'..anna bligh allready is ordering police to get the shots..lol,

so we are being decieved yet again..[so we stopped demanding the audit of the fed..[but soon too the web gets shut down..[marshal-law is being declared all over, the other issues are being submrerged under this media/hype/panic

not much will change till your police get put on tamaflue.,[angel dust,..that causes halucinations and phycosis..[and they are armed lol..[read the russia cop reports]..that was only tamaflue[wait till the compulsory injections begin,..thats when we get the pandemic

last time the sars thing stopped when police refused their shots[will be be as lucky this time..[well who knows ..lol..[depends how bad the'other'news gets..lol

look my wrathchild your the clever dude..you won ok

now just stop your other delusions, before you genocide the whole human race,..how much control you need?..[better to rule over billions than millions]

It is obvious from the article that it is another scare.. the numbers mentioned by the author - 1,600 cases and 150 plus deaths (all but one to date in Mexico) - clearly show that the disease is not worth mentioning. Those deaths and illnesses would simply make no difference to the overall statistics for death and illnesses in any of the places the flu has reached, and perhaps have no effect on the statistics for the specific category for respiratory illnesses - even in Mexico where all the deaths have occured. There are lots of ways to die in Mexico City.
Health authorities should be concerned - its is their job to contain these outbreaks and prevent unnecessary deaths - but individuals should forget all about it, and go jogging.

Okay I must be missing something here. All the posts seem to range from blaise to skeptical. Lets get a little perspective...a fatality rate of around 8% is pretty frigging sreious and if my government wasn't stepping up to the plate on this I would be bloody annoyed.

The mathematics on disease vectors is frightening and as this is a new strain/combination as related in the piece the 'precautionary principle' must be dragged front and centre.

I'm happy to cop a little scaring rather than a dose of this thing.

between December 2003 and 22 September 2005,115 infections and 59 deaths were reported to the World Health Organization).

As a result, the emergence of the third prerequisite is highly probable, and governments worldwide have moved to a raised level of pandemic preparedness.

The global economic and human cost of pandemic influenza in the 21st century is likely to be very high.Depending on the infectivity of the virus, experts estimate that the worldwide toll could be between 7.4 and 150 million deaths

The Australian Government estimates that a pandemic could result in up to 13 000 Australian deaths and 2.8 million infections. This number of infections is likely to overwhelm the health system and disrupt most economic activities.

Given infection rates of up to 20% of the population and a global spread of disease occurring in waves over several months, the disruption to trade and industry could lead to a prolonged economic recession..>>BUT MATE..we got the ressesion..yet the rest just DIDNT HAPPEN...lol
