Superb analysis, incisive summary of our national narrative. Congratulations.

Just one thing: with reference to the use of the word "mate" ("Later, the term mate takes on wider meaning, referring to any big donor to your political party who wants you to get them out of any sort of sticky situation."), I think you might be referring to two different things. I believe the second usage is a completely new variant, pronounced "maaaaaaaate".

Xavier

You missed some of the milestones, but I'm sure other right-minded people can help fill the gaps. Here's mine for 1901.

1901:
Russian and German ships sniffing around our coast line so the States decide to join together as one so they can create their own Australian defence system, but can't agree on how wide the railway tracks should be when soldiers need to be transported from one State to another. They can agree, however, that the White Man is superior to other races and that they are the only ones who can pass Dictation exams.

Because the dates are very important, you may want to amend one of your latter entries: Norway launched its invasion of Australia in 2001.

This is great, well done, Coward's history put into perspective and seen for what it really is, at last.

Naturally, this piece is to be derided as the work of some kind of:

Subversive-tree-hugging-commie-pinko-latte-chardonnay-sipping-socialist-black-armband-leftist-ivory-tower-thuggish-politically-correct-multiculturalist-unionist-socialist-self-loathing-white-hating-marxist-unAustralian-economic-vandal-academia-inspired-unpatriotic-liberal-journalist.

Probably has sympathy for those damn pinkos in the education sector.

Did I miss anything? I Just thought I'd save any extreme critics time by taking a shotgun approach...

TurnRightThenLeft,

Your: "Subversive-tree-hugging-commie-pinko-latte-chardonnay-sipping-socialist-black-armband-leftist-ivory-tower-thuggish-politically-correct-multiculturalist-unionist-socialist-self-loathing-white-hating-marxist-unAustralian-economic-vandal-academia-inspired-unpatriotic-liberal-journalist."

That covers the period 1996-2007 when Mr Howard's culture wars abolished politically correct speech and replaced it with encouragement for the very nicest forms of vilification.

I think your compound abuse is the equivalent to a village-in-Wales description of the "Howard Haters".
