Neutralizing Iran’s nuclear threat without force or sanctions : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 22/8/2024

All past efforts to block Iran’s march toward becoming a nuclear power have failed. It is time for the US and Israel to develop a new strategy.

It was the U.S that started "Iran’s march toward becoming a nuclear power".

If Iran dismantled its enriched Uranium (U) stocks, which are one precursor to nuclear weapons, then Israel would bomb Iran quite readily.

Israel sees Iran as a conventional military and terrorist threat. Such Iranian threats include conventional warhead missiles from Iran, Hezbollah proxy forces in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq and separately Houthi missiles from Yemen and the usual threat of 10s or 100s missiles from Gaza each day.

Iran has built up its U stocks in deeply dug bunkers beneath its capital Tehran and below enrichment machines. Also Iran has built nuclear reactors in part to produce potentially explosive Plutonium (Pu).

So Israel is constantly wishing to bomb and missile Iran - but it is only the threat of such bombing/missiling kicking up Iranian radioactive dust over the region that is staying Israel's hand.

Doesn't the author have any compassion for the Iranian people who are being hostages and suffer under the Ayatollahs regime?

Let these fools waste all their energies and resources on building useless atomic weapons but keep working on a regime change, because once the Iranian people are free, who cares whether or not Iran has nuclear weapons?

Rather than seeing it as a threat to Israel, once the Iranian people are free, Iran can again become Israel's best ally.

Yuyu,
Can`t disagree with you.
Nothing wrong with Iranian people. Religious zealots are the problem on all sides.

There is an "easy" way to stop Iran's nuclear weapon program.
Just blow up their oil terminals and refineries.
They will be stoney broke in days. They are already in some financial
trouble and the belt tightening may well bring down the government.
Hitting the terminals would probably make a mess in the gulf.
The Gulf oil companies probably have plenty of gear to mop up with.
The refineries where we buy our petrol & diesel may get some of their
feedstock from Iran, but China is their biggest customer.
