Labor, how do I loathe thee? : Comments

By John Mikkelsen, published 7/5/2024

I'm probably not alone in finding it surprising that Federal Labor still had around 30 to 32 percent primary support in recent polls - an all-time low. But how low can they go?

All politicians lie that they don't take any notice of the polls - that only the ‘big one’ at general elections matters.

But, Loony Labor seems to really mean it; they get even more dangerous and obnoxious by the minute.

Albanese Labor seems utterly convinced that they can do what they like, and get away with it.

They have no need for us.

About two months ago, I emailed a routine question to my local Labor MP. No response. I sent another email. No response. I then made a written complaint (a real letter) to the Treasurer's office asking him/them for an answer. Several weeks later - no response.

How much longer will it be, I wonder, when we don't even get a vote; or, we vote, but Labor gets 88% of the vote a la the recent election in Russia. Dutton the Dill doesn't look like coming to our rescue.

Still, the naifs rabbit on about what a great country Australia is. The country is still OK, but the people running it, and those meekly allowing them to do so, are rubbish.

A Chinese fighter plane has just demonstrated its threat to us by dumping some flares in front of an ADF helicopter. The reaction from Canberra: sweet FA. They threatened the lives of RAN personnel not long ago with the same response from Canberra: sweet FA.

How long will it be before the frightful female, Julie Inman Grant, will stop any criticism of our hard-Left, increasingly totalitarian government!

Australians are marching like zombies to the edge of the cliff.

“How do I loathe thee”?

No more than I loathe the whole mottley band of rogues.

I’d be more endeared to the local used car salesman: At the least they present you with a car for sale!

Ttbn

Yours is more evidence of the common story, the local MP is totally disinterested in the problems from the daily grind of the fools who vote for them.

Australia seems to be heading to a Communist utopia for the people who consider themselves rulers, and a nightmare for the rest of us. We already have people living in tents and under bridges - all since Albanese. Government is the only source of “truth”. The “crises” of climate change, misinformation, disinformation and mal-information are beyond dispute. Dissenting views will be silenced. Complain, and Big Brother will double down on you.

DD,

I know. The local MP represents his party, not his constituency. They used to at least make out that they cared about people, and would send platitudes back within a month. But, even that has now ended. And it's not just the Albanese government: it applies to what used to be called the 'Opposition' as well.

My observations showed me that the politicians are merely a reflection of the voters !
Common sense & reasonable decency aren't found on both sides of the fence.

Yes. It has always been said that voters get the governments they deserve, but there's no consolation in that. We can only hope that the (too) silent majority comes up with another Voice result at the next election. Even then, the alternative party (it can't be called the Opposition) wouldn't be much better; they want us silenced and digitally stalked by themselves, too.

The Senate is where the only hope lies - if people vote for One Nation, the United Australia Party, Family First or the Libertarians.

This hard right site wheels out these rabid old conservatives like John Mikkelsen, with monotonous regularity, all to pan the Albanese Labor Government, and progressive politics in general, so be it. Then on cue, good old ttbn followed by a couple of others from the Usual Suspect brigade, will be there first up with comments in agreement. However now and then, a lefty, or should I say a moderate progressive will be given a bit of air time, all in the name of OLO "balance". This guy, like his article is full of it, and not worth commenting on, I'll leave that to ttbn and his forum side kicks.

It is truly fascinating how blue collar, no tertiary education, climate change denying authors hate Labour.

Same thing has been engineered in the US with rednecks all Trump supporters. The chattering masses here also have not realised how they have been manipulated.

Something that authors should understand is that when you headline with 'Hate ...' most people don't take the content seriously, because, well, you are a hater. You are biased.

But carry on, the right-wing circle-jerk is fun to watch.

Well, we can hope they bleed more votes to The Greens who keep gaining ascendancy on the nonsense of liberal lite that Labor has become, Gough must be turning in his grave as Malcom must be in his, as he sees liberal becoming GOP lite (remembering he backed The Greens when he rage quit the Libs) . And the Greens can then claim more seats, one coffin at a time as the conservatives who are hell bent on destroying the planet and the nation move on to whatevers beyond this mortal coil.

Random (Ron) it's great you have the psychic powers looking down your nose to know whether an author has a tertiary education or what colour collars he wears, but then you mis-read "Loathe" as hate (back to school for you)... and PS with the low standard of entry to tertiary institutions and the pro-Palestine rabble trying to block universal education these days I hate to think of what our future holds. And it may help you and other socialist acolytes to realise that education doesn't end at high school or university and that the list of highly educated scientists who don't believe CO2 is the main driver of climate change is longer than your outstretched arms even if you're holding hands with Paul 1045.

Indy,

"Common sense & reasonable decency aren't found on both sides of the fence." An old fella like you wouldn't have a clue. Met a newly elected politician just the other day, full of enthusiasm, keen to get involved, wants to do a good job. Unlike you, she has a social conscience wanting to improve things for the community. Only a month in office she's done a couple of good things already. What good have you ever done in 50 years on taxpayer funded welfare?

BTW; before you ask, she's not from the Greens or Labor, certainly not from One Nation or The Fat Clive Party, she's from the Liberal National Party of Queensland! Unlike you, or the mug who wrote this article, I can give credit where credit is due.

From the 10 most Recent Article Discussions on this site, 7 could be considered to contain domestic political content. All 7 in my opinion contain Anti-Labor bias! In all 7 cases the opening comment is by the same poster-ttbn, a known forum supporter of the far right extremist political party, One Nation.

Haha Paul1=1+3, it's very easy to be "biased" against the hopeless Albanese government, the worst by far since Whitlam and that was pretty bad which was why he got dumped from a great height after he thundered "well may we say 'God save the Queen', because nothing will save the Governor-General..." Nothing saved him either.
Since the obvious recent failings mentioned in the article, we have seen more stabbing incidents including an obvious terrorist attack by another radicalised teenager shot dead by Police after posting Islamist rants, and the dangerous attack by a Chinese helicopter on an ADF helicopter in international waters. No strong statements from Albansese and his ministers except to stay that was "unprofessional". Wake up Australia.

What a couple of responders here don't realise is this site is called Online Opinion for a reason - the articles are opinion pieces not news items and if authors tend to be anti-Labor, anti- Green, anti-Woke and the majority of respondents are of similar minds, that is their right. Those who find this offensive should go visit sites such as Crikey, New Matilda or others of similar ilk, which cater for their views, rather than resorting to put-downs and personal insults. Meanwhile Albo and his mixed band of buck-passers still can't just come out strongly against the ratbag pro-Palestine protesters on university campuses chanting "intifada" and "from the river to the sea". Attorney General Mark Dreyfuss has refused a university request for a legal opinion. Isn't that why he's paid the big bucks for? The laws are already in place, just enforce them.

Random (Ron) it's great you have the psychic powers looking down your nose to know whether an author has a tertiary education or what colour collars he wears,

I' pretty sure that's called Doxxing and it is against the rules in all modern forums. But this one is anything but up with the times. I chose a moniker that was not my real name here for a reason, as you have. Respect that.

In the meantime I stopped responding to your emails to me and did not finish the book. I'm only here because the brag link that you sent of the latest article, it horrified me. Finding out that you were a misogynistic Right wing climate change denier, meant that I had no interest in anything you had to say, and your biography of no interest at all. I contemplated not taking it back to the library and just pay the fine so no one else would be affected by it, but it got mixed up with the other books I did read and I dropped them all into the chute.

The one positive is that you did prove Random's Law' to be correct in your case. A lack of tertiary education is a common factor in the inability for some people to understand what science is.

"the hopeless Albanese government, the worst by far since Whitlam and that was pretty bad"

Coming from you, that is probably a complement to both the Whitlam and Albanese governments. I take it you are an archo-conservative with no desire to embrace any kind of societal reform? I believe the Albanese government is rather orthodox in its approach to reform, working within a clearly defined framework, tinkering around the edges more or less. Its economic policies are very "mainstream", wanting to curb inflation to foster a better business environment with flow on effects for the majority of Australians etc, as is its foreign policy, a continuation of the previous governments policies towards America and China etc, but without those fools bluster and bravado as regards China. So for you where is the great chasm that has developed in Australian society thanks to the elections of a mediocre reformist government in Labor.
