Biden vs Trump 2024: where does Australia stand? : Comments

By Teck Lim, published 12/2/2024

The Western MIM, including Australia’s, will resist the emergence of the America First domestic policy preeminence but we are at a time in history when the old rules, benchmarks and tools of analysis do not work.

Alan B,

Who do you think should be the next US president?

Alan,

Going on about what a grub Trump is makes Biden no less a grub nor less demented, much as you might want it to. Biden is considered to be cognitively impaired to an extent that he is unfit to stand trial. The Democrats did not challenge the decision not to prosecute, and in defending his mental competency Biden forgot where his Rosary beads came from and mixed up Egypt and Mexico. The Democrats need to stop this disgusting abuse of a demented old man. Americans won't vote for a goo-goo man no matter how hard the lie of his competence gets pushed, and that lie will be even harder to hide as his decline is accelerating.

Whatever or whoever puts the Woke & Lefties & Democrats & other parasites out of action is what's needed. At this stage it looks like Trump can save us from the insanity.

Biden vs Trump 2024: where does Australia stand?

.

I guess the answer to that is Australia stands on the sidelines as a bemused, confused and somewhat anxious observer.

The main concern with Biden is his age. He will be 86 at the end of his presidency if elected – the oldest president ever in the history of the United States. Ronald Reagan, the second oldest president, was not quite 78 at the end of his two terms.

Trump seems to be more the problem than the solution. He too would become the oldest president ever at the end of his second term if elected. He was born in June 1946. Trump is a notorious authoritarian narcissist, a pathological liar, and acts like an elephant in a china shop. He knows no limits.

He incited his followers to the insurrection of January 6 on the Capitol, declaring :

“Now it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy, and after this, we're going to walk down — and I'll be there with you — we're going to walk down ... to the Capitol …”

But, instead of “walking down – to the Capitol", he was whisked off by Secret Service agents to the White House and watched it all on television.

A crowd of about 10,000 marched on the Capitol. Over 1,230 were charged with federal crimes, including many of the leaders of the Proud Boys movement. About 730 pleaded guilty to charges, while another 170 were also convicted.

Trump has blocked financial and military aid to Ukraine and threatened to encourage Russia to attack NATO countries that fail to pay 2% of GDP for their defence.

He also ordered the Republican members of Congress to vote against the bipartisan bill they negotiated with the Democrats to control immigration at the Mexican border – so that he could blame Biden for failing to stop it.

Unfortunately, beggars can’t be choosers.

We’ll just have to pay allegiance to whoever comes out of the urn and do our best to adapt – whatever the price !

My personal preference is that neither Biden nor Trump be allowed to run in 2024. Trump is a buffoon and Biden is an old man with a failing memory.

"In August 2021, President Biden hit an inflexion point, shifting from net positive to net negative in his approval rating — and he has never recovered. Ominously, he passed what looks to be another inflexion point in November, definitively falling behind Donald Trump in the ballot test. And he might not recover from that either.

Despite the noise, the battle for the presidency in 2024 has followed a fairly simple incumbent-challenger dynamic, if impeded somewhat by Trump’s unpopularity. The sitting president started out with a strong inaugural “honeymoon” polling bounce, which degraded over time as challenges to the president naturally created division and disappointment.

That said, this is not a typical race, with a former president with over 90 criminal charges running and an incumbent president whose polling has had an almost unbroken collapse, with little improvement. The approval and ballot test polling have been fairly stable — the politics may be roiling, but the voters are moving at a glacial pace. "

Dear Foxy,

Should Trump be elected, Australia can forget about any American support, also about participating in an attempt to save Taiwan.
That stretcher is just too heavy for Australia to carry alone.

So while Australia could [for now] be saved from being at war with China,
and while we cannot save the country of Taiwan from evil China,
the least we could and should do, is to save Taiwanese people from Chinese tyranny by accepting and welcoming many of them as refugees.
That is relatively cheaper, both economically and blood-wise, than a war with China.
