By Craig Thompson, published 23/12/2022Capturing the cynicism many feel around Christmas time, the comic musician Tom Lehrer once carolled, 'Angels we have heard on high / Tell us to go out and buy!'

Christmas, the time for the dead to bury the dead.
The celebration of the birth of Christ with the anti Christ of Santa Clause. The ode to Coca Cola, and to the praise of phosphoric acid and sugar syrup with a touch of dye. God rest you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay! And may the God of debt and Capitalism, be praised for its gift of uncertainty and a sketchy future assured. Where did you say Christ is, or is that was? Posted by diver dan, Friday, 23 December 2022 9:10:24 AM

We celebrate the birth of Jesus around this time, when it was probably around July. The story of Jesus is probably an amalgam of at least 2 rebels. And is loaded with myth, fable and probable imagined/exaggerated feats.
None of the story can ever be proven, even if you believe Jesus died on a cross, you need to hold open in your mind the possibility that the opposite could be true to have faith. Jesus never claimed to be God, that he was little more than an instrument that the Father worked through, i.e., it is not I who does these things but the Father in me. As for buying and gift giving that is a nice way to say to friends, Family that you care for and love them, and goodwill to all mankind. That that bothers some Holier than thou, " authoritative holy rollers," is a choice they make. Go out and buy something then if that offends your religious belief, then take your goods to the charity bin so those with little or nothing may enjoy the season of goodwill! The annual bitch about buying has to be driving more and more from the churches and pulpit pounding Parsons/Priests. Who see the plate not as full the Christmas season. It must be hard to struggle by on $100,000 a year with a house and car included. Giving up what they give up in exchange is their choice. Alan B. Gift yourself with contentment this and every other Christmas, your friends with compassion, your family with love, the shop-owners with quiet and space for reflection and repentance.
