As long as there are too many people on this planet, oppression is inevitable, call the oppressor by any name - if it isn't states, corporations and capital then it would be world-government, organising-committees, peer-pressure or whatever, all word-games.
One simply cannot fit that many people in space (with reasonable natural resources) without regimenting them, without forcing them to cooperate whether or not they like each other, whether or not they share any values in common, without frustrating their spiritual lifestyle and aspirations - and recently, without bringing in machines to monitor their behaviour and compliance. Technology can indeed solve the scarcity of Bread, but the price we pay for it is terrible and there is nowhere to escape.
