Pyotr Kropotkin, 180 years later : Comments

By Sam Ben-Meir, published 21/12/2022

'Anarchism is an aspect of socialism (among many others) that those of us wishing socialism, or some comparable form of resistance, to survive will have to think about again, this time without a prearranged sneer.'

Yet another attempt to "square the circle".

As long as there are too many people on this planet, oppression is inevitable, call the oppressor by any name - if it isn't states, corporations and capital then it would be world-government, organising-committees, peer-pressure or whatever, all word-games.

One simply cannot fit that many people in space (with reasonable natural resources) without regimenting them, without forcing them to cooperate whether or not they like each other, whether or not they share any values in common, without frustrating their spiritual lifestyle and aspirations - and recently, without bringing in machines to monitor their behaviour and compliance. Technology can indeed solve the scarcity of Bread, but the price we pay for it is terrible and there is nowhere to escape.

I see no merit in most this essay. And has no comparison with democratic socialism. If we would change to a more egalitarian society all the old models need to be replaced with cooperative capitalism comrade.

And automation as much as doable. Assisted with factory direct sales to eliminate as much as possible the paper shuffling profit demanding middleman. And with that element removed, halve the cost of living or doing business.

Co-ops were the only private enterprise, free market business model to survive the great Depression largely intact. Moreover, are nimble and cannot get too big to fail. Those that own the enterprise also personally staff it and won't carry drones or tolerate union interference.

Co-ops should be funded and facilitated by Governments to ensure they're enabled to exist and operate. Governments should be crowd funded to remove the cashed up political/power broker(s) enthusiast(s) with (an) agenda(s). Governments need to be free of the latter influence and bend only to the will of the people.

Co-ops can run power plants, water supply treatment companies and all manner of manufacture, processing and value adding. For less running costs than any other example, including Sovietized examples.

Governments can play their part by removing the impediments they create with what they allow on the table and what they disallow.

Nuclear energy operated by local co-ops is for sure and certain our very best future and if allowed now would get the nation out from under foreign energy price gouging and intolerable nation and economy killing control.

Isn't it ironic that revolutions start when the oppressed rise up yet when life becomes too easy the descendants of the revolutionaries turn Anarchists & destroy all the good that has been achieved through revolution !
Talk about idiotic mentality !
