'People Power' surges back despite conservative mass media : Comments

By Andris Heks, published 30/6/2022

This time the general electorate refused to be swayed by misinformation, and shifted further to the left than the Labor Party dared to go

The people wanted a change. And they made
their voices clear. How far this will progress
we shall have to wait and see what happens next.
ttbn accuses Andris of talking through his "ABC
hat?" Well that's certainly better than talking
out of a supposed "conservative" arse. And of
course ttbn is most certainly entitled to his
incorrect opinion - like so many on this forum.

Menzies's liberal party if formed today would have folk like ttbn claiming it was so far to the left as to be socialist? The coalition and labor have moved more and more to the right with the coalition being fiscally conservative and socially conservative!

With new labor a shadow of that, just more socially liberal. Even so, our political parties seem to be locked into a fifties time warp and determined to get other folks (foreign investors) to do what we should be doing! And to the point where our very economic sovereignty is on the table.

I believe labor will be a one term government! Because they're are afraid to act in any way that puts the greens offside? That being so the very thing this country must have, nuclear power is off of the table! And nuclear subs even further away than ever! As is a viable and robust manufacturing sector.

To think we were once the third wealthiest nation on the planet and a creditor one at that! But then we didn't have the nonsense mantra continually parroted, i.e., the government has no business being in business.

The government was in business and built snowy hydro, most if not all power generation and the grid that served it, a bank and a telephone company, plus a couple of airlines!

Now? SFA. And the most unaffordable housing, huge homelessness and a huge rust belt where once stood a vibrant and robust manufacturing sector. We built cars and once build our own planes! But that was back in the day when energy was still affordable and could be again only more so.

We've come a long way and all downhill! Now saddled with almost unrepayable, record exponentially expanding domestic and foreign debt! And planned for expansion of both? To purchase votes?

Hi Alan B.,

I'm more hopeful.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our new government
will take this country in a new direction.
More into negotiation and working together -
even with their opposition for the good of the country.
I'm so sick of the "football mentality" of the politics
of the past. We have some of the greatest minds in this
country. If only they were put to good use?

'I don't vote...' says Diver Dan. Well Dan, neither did I. For years. I didn't believe that any politician was worth voting for. They were all hypocrites and lyres as far as I could see. Then after a while, I realised that some were not so hypocritical as others, and some didn't lie quite as much as others. They all still lied and were hypocrites. So, this lead me to the conclusion that I had to vote, if only to keep the really really nasty ones out. And when one of the lesser nasty ones lies, speaks with forked tongue etc., then it is my duty to contact that person and tell them that their behavior is not acceptable. In other words - we get treated by politicians (and anyone else for that matter) the way we allow them to treat us. It is no use whinging about a politician on Facebook or OLO or anywhere else. We have to confront them directly.

Better get in a good supply of candles because if the greens have their way, a couple of hours after the sun has set and all the storages are empty that is all you will have until the sun gets going in the morning.
