Perhaps these pieces should be checked, given the number of naive lefties who hang onto every word because the writers are usually academics; and, to the naifs, academics can do no wrong.

Sam, there has been some change, not much but in the right direction and a direction that can be built on with time as small incremental steps, as background checks are expanded to eliminate nut jobs/the criminal element. It's not law abiding gun owners that are the problem, it's outlaws.

Moreover, police the world over kill as many citizens with guns as the criminal community. Take the guns off the law abiding gun owners and only outlaws will have guns.

Criminal gangs are involved in drive by shootings in Sydney, with the law abiding caught in the crossfire. Even though we here have the strictest gun laws in the world. bar Japan, where almost every household has a hand gun. No law has thus, far shut down the black market here or there! Laws need to be enforceable to work!

Guns are just as numerous in Swiss and Austrian communities, with only one mass shooting outcome? So, what do they do different? Background checks on allcomers and gun shows, seems to be were they and you differ?

Pros - the right to bear arms for the purposes of a militia blah blah blah

It was specifically inserted so that citizens have a right to overthrow a tyrannical government,
- which is exactly what the US has become.
The founders knew the system they built wouldn't last forever.
- Eisenhower spoke about the military industrial complex, look how much needless and senseless deaths the US has brought upon the rest of the world.

Cons - a lot of needless and senseless deaths of those very same US citizens.

The answer, maybe China will do better when the become global hegemon.
US already owes them a trillion dollars.

Don't like the idea of China ruling the world?
Then it's up to us to figure out something better than both these nations before it's too late.

Repealing the 2nd amendment is like the weather - everyone talks about it but no one does anything about it.

They call for a repeal but nothing is done because they also know that 60-70% of USians oppose repeal. So its just virtue signalling.

Especially when we know that murder rates due to firearms are at historically low levels.
