The UNSC is in desperate need of comprehensive reforms : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 14/6/2022

The UNSC has failed to maintain international peace and security which was its intended purpose. What it needs now is comprehensive reforms to make it relevant again.

AC,

Take off your tinfoil hat and actually look at the evidence.

The justifications Russia gives for invading Ukraine are so flimsy as to be laughable. Its vaunted Wagner mercenaries are littered with neo-Nazis many with swastika tattoos.

Russia's economy like many other Petro states has hollowed out and is hugely dependent on imported technology without which it cannot replace its planes and helicopters and even its tanks and APVs are highly reliant on Western parts. Commercial and domestic vehicles are all imported and reliant on parts that are now sanctioned and breakdowns cost much more to fix.

After another month or two of fighting the Russian army's strength will have fallen to match that of Italy or lower.

There are also a string of sabotages occurring in Russia such as this one very recently:

Hey shadowminister,
"The justifications Russia gives for invading Ukraine are so flimsy as to be laughable."

Maybe they should've honoured the Minsk agreements the UN supported.
Maybe they should've kept their word about NATO expansion.
And maybe they shouldn't have been killing thousands of people in the Donbass region for the last 8 years.
- No-one paid any attention then, did they?

It's no wonder Russia took matters into their own hands.
Did you expect them to just stand by as NAZI's killed Russians unabated?
I think your brain may have melted as much as Biden's has.
- If not, it's definitely on the way...

AC,

As the Russians constantly violated the Minsk agreement, why should the Ukrainians not respond to the Nazi Russian invaders?

I see the new weapons are having an effect. UK harpoon missiles took out a Russian ship and 3 Russian oil rigs (stolen in 2014 from Ukraine) and a refinery in Russia was hit by a drone.

I see the Russian economy is starting to implode as new cars are no available nor are car parts for imported cars. As per the Russian economists, the Russian economy is going to shrink by nearly 8% this year and more in 2023.

Without high-tech imports, Russia can no longer build tanks or aircraft to replace the nearly $1bn worth of tanks etc lost every day.

AC,

You are getting your information from your usual pro-Russian shills I see.

In 1944 Hitler ordered a massive counter-attack in the battle of the bulge and managed to drive into the allied lines and inflict massive casualties. However, in doing so the Germans lost so many men, tanks etc that their army soon collapsed.

Russia has already lost more than double the men, etc. than it lost in Afghanistan and with its economy in shambles, it cannot replace its losses. The separatist armies it conscripted are effectively destroyed and Russia is reduced to calling out 50yr old tanks and is losing ground in Kherson.

It is slowly capturing territory in the Donbas while burning through men and materiel a prodigious but still has to hold onto it in the face of growing Ukrainian insurgencies.

Not to mention the recent Russian losses of a ship, three gas rigs, a refinery and the import restrictions to Kaliningrad.
