Can only but hope.
Throwing out the Neanderthal liberals and their National associates can only be a positive.

Polls and pollsters have been spectacularly wrong before! While there could be some changes in some seats? the Teals are likely to support the coalition? The lead in the polls by Labor has evaporated and who will govern as a minority government will only be apparent in two days once the booths are closed! I feel the Nats will lose most of their parliamentary team as the preferences that have kept them afloat may go to the teals in many cases? And because Farmers are more concerned with climate change than whether or not a few foreign controlled or owned coalmining companies go under?

Fascinating post! I will defer to the authors age and experience at this stage but whenever predictions are made they usually turn out to be spectacularly wrong, mine certainly have.
It will take many days Alan B to sort out the actual numbers and rest assured the Teals are ALP to their bootstraps. You cannot get more ALP than a doctor or their partner. Farmers understand climate better than politicians and any examination of 150 years of weather shows Global Warming despite name changes is just another scam.
Personally I hope the real independents wipe out the majors and ensure the last two years of suffering is never repeated.
This topic should be revived next week and we can have a general confession of our sins.

I'd not at all be surprised if the Coalition romps in with a huge majority considering the expose' of the real antics of any of the Left factions.

I have long thought that we should not have 'parties' at all.
We should vote for the most capable candidate in our local area?
Just like selecting a person to fill a role in any business or work place.
We should set out to select a person (who is paid) to represent, in the parliament, the ideas and opinions of our local area.

Of course that means we must take the time to study all of our local candidates, in order to select the best of the bunch.
That might be difficult, as they rarely put in an appearance, even at election time. ^_^
And what to do if none are suitable?
An electorate needs to be able to reject all of the candidates who are applying?

Assuming we get to have a parliament of entirely suitable persons, they then need to be 'structured'.
Someone must be chosen to be official spokesperson, who can also represent the government at social and official functions.
Others to fill ministerial portfolios, with similar duties?
In whatever way this is achieved, one must hope its implementation is both common-sense and logical.

With the rise of independents, it seems we might at last be heading towards the birth of an ideal parliament?
This coming Saturday afternoon and evening should show us the lie of the land.
It might even be entertaining for us to observe how the situation unfolds, as counting proceeds.
One can but hope that the new parliament will not be subject to all the scuffling and unrest which pervades our present arrangement.

This sounds like an absolute nightmare.
Thankfully it is almost certain to remain as the OP's fever dream.

I believe the two major parties have nothing to fear, both the Protectionist Party and the Free Trade Party will continue unmolested for years to come. The two traditional parties having nothing to concern themselves with, and Mr Barton will remain Australia's Prime Minister for the next 20 years at least. Here in 1901, gazing into my crystal ball I can only see good times ahead for Australia, there is no possibility of a future World War or a Great Depression as we had in the 1890's. I also predict the fledgling Australian Labor Party is nothing more than an apparition and will be gone and forgotten by the end of the decade. As for Federation, a minor irritant, Australia will revert to its status as a collection of British colonies very soon.

Mrs Compton isn't it great to have a crystal ball, if yours should every break, I'll lend you mine. Then again we could just wait to Sunday morning to see how much of your prediction comes true.

IP,
My thoughts for many years also. A bit of confusion at the start until the pecking order is established then (maybe) responsible govt.
Certainly far less confusion than the present rabble of incumbents.

While the Libs will probably lose Boothby, it's unlikely to go to an independent - the ALP have been campaigning very hard in that seat.
As for the rest, I really don't want to hazard a guess. But hung parliaments are generally a good thing, as governments are forced to justify every decision they make.
I don't think political parties will die tomorrow (except maybe the Australian Democrats again) but it will be interesting to see the Libs try to recover they're dealt the heavy blow they deserve. They may develop policies that meet the approval of most of this board, then after a second wipeout, develop more sensible policies.

We must give Everald Compton some credit, the guy was reasonably close to the mark in some of his predictions.

Was a bit tough working in the Brisbane rain for the GREENS yesterday, however a good result, my mate Bernard increased the GREEN's vote by about 25%. with the tpp margin down to around 53/47% in Bonner it will now be considered a marginal LNP seat for next time. Great bunch of folk at the local polling booth from all parties ALP, LNP, ON, UAP and the Greens. Very nice caramel slices supplied by the lady from One Nation, were they made to Pauline's secret recipe, bad politics, but makes great caramel slices, with coffee (a socialist handout) compliments of the LNP people, can't ask for more.

And that party surely is the right wing conservatives who tried to win by sliding in on the coattails of small L liberals who are the moderate middle of the coalition. Albeit, you might be forgiven for thinking they were just pretend small L liberal moderates given the way they supported the coalition as it moved further and further to the right.

Barnaby crossed the floor time and again in support of his convictions and stood almost alone as a conviction politician, who stood for "family values" and Christian morality. Little wonder his face is so red.

Saturday confirmed a landslide loss for the coalition and should sound the death knell for those on the extreme right wing (neo Nazis) who pretended to be aligned with the moderate middle to gain power! Their only real goal! Saturday should confirm they and their ilk are finished and as it should be. Given what we face in the future and will need bipartisan cooperation and cooperative capitalism to save our debt laden economy and our most prosperous future!

Look back on my previous comments to understand, I called it, as I do for the best way forward!

the extreme right wing (neo Nazis)
Alan B,
Were you move in everyday people circles you'd find that the neo Nazis are mainly made up of failed University protester crowds on welfare , extreme Left would be a closer match ! Their female allies, the femmo nazis are the ones who bestowed PC upon society.
The extreme Right are the overly conservative who don't mind having welfare support to compensate their failings !
