Why the NRL should let Izzy Folau play football : Comments
By David Pellowe, published 26/3/2021The decimated ratings and revenues of American sports codes which have embraced political virtue-signalling is evidence of the truism, 'go woke: go broke'.

If the NRL is actually being punished for its wokeness and meddling in things outside its area - good. They deserve it. Freedom of speech and expression is more important than any sport. People need to do something useful for themselves rather than watching a bunch of boofheads paid too much to muck about with a ball.

Football is the gauge by which to judge the mentality of many of a Nation's voters. I'm still waiting to hear of a country where football is assigned to the history books !

Banning Folau is not any kind of answer.
The Irish Times pointed out: "If it seems nasty that some religious people think gays are going to hell. Guess what? Religious people think that plenty of other religious people are going to hell as well!" Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 27 March 2021 12:23:30 PM

Dear Hasbeen,
So you want to completely muzzle ABC workers but happy to let a bloke who repeatedly broke his contract to keep his job? If you are so much for free speech then do the honest thing and support it fully. Don't pick and choose according to your ideological bent. It makes you look like a tosser. SR we pay the ABC employees, yes remember they are employees. We are entitled to set the limits of their behavior while employed, ie. on air, or writing for the air.
They can do what ever the hell they like, just as Folau should be able to do, in their own time. Of course I would not expect you as a radical lefty to understand such a principle. Posted by Hasbeen, Saturday, 27 March 2021 10:51:49 PM

Hi Hasbeen,
Folau broke his contract, that's why he got fired. Now it's up to the NRL whether they will let Folau play football and under what terms. My guess is - they probably will. But we'll have to wait and see. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 28 March 2021 7:58:48 AM

Dear Hasbeen,
That is good to hear. However in another thread titled “Good Enough for the BBC, Good Enough for the ABC” you wrote: "With the ridiculous money we pay B & C graders at the ABC we should be able to dictate which side of the bed they sleep on." The BBC have instituted the following: “The BBC said it had considered impartiality in the context of public expressions of opinion, taking part in campaigns and participating in marches or protests. The new guidance on social media will apply to staff whether they are using online platforms professionally or personally.” http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54723282 I take it you don't think this should be applied to ABC employees given you opined the following: “They can do what ever the hell they like, just as Folau should be able to do, in their own time. Of course I would not expect you as a radical lefty to understand such a principle.” Or are you struggling with the principle? Posted by SteeleRedux, Sunday, 28 March 2021 2:50:17 PM

Foxy,
Why are we wasting our time discussing Folau when we could be discussing this guy: http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2021-jarryd-hayne-sexual-assault-conviction-strip-jarryd-haynes-awards-dally-ms-sentencing/news-story/b3231f3f2135f0322906fe41e0624220 While he is serving time he could brush up on LNP etiquette and when he is released he could run in an LNP seat for Federal MP. Might even get pre-selection for Soot's seat of Cook - The Shire, God's country, birthplace of Australia, home of the Sharks. Today's LNP has so much to offer a person of his talents.
