Biden's victory: a eunuch presidency beckons : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 10/11/2020

A Joe Biden presidency promises to be a return, not a progression. But a glance at the US electoral map suggests no easy pathway to political amnesia.

Fear not Trumpists.

We the citizens of Biden's Brave New World [1]. We are hereby called Bidets [2]. Are now divided into five castes. Study the Cast List well [3].

You Trumpist rightwingers who can read, are Deltas.

You Trumpist rightwingers who can only repeat American slogans, are Epsilons, the lowest caste.

You can only ascend to the three Upper Castes of Bidets, by renouncing your misguided, rightwing, Trumpist, lives.

"Then came Biden, wishing to look more alive than not by running to the podium. Had he received a jab or two, a handy stimulant? Certainly, the commander-in-chief to be would have to dispel notions of lethargy and sleepiness. In animated, forced fashion, he claimed that a "clear victory" had been achieved. He spoke of an "outpouring" of joy across the globe."

How have we managed to create an entire world that runs on pure bullshite?

Dear Binoy,

.

From my perspective, Donald Trump’s presidency has not been entirely negative. He put the boot into the anthill and stirred-up some sleeping giants, not just in the US but, perhaps even more importantly, among all the major nations and international institutions. I see that as positive.

He has no equal as a brash, streetwise, wheeler-dealer and populist demagogue. That explains his constant popularity and outstanding results economically and politically during the first three years of his presidency.

But his ruthless, authoritarian method of governance, coupled with his obvious personality disorders of severe narcissism and pathological cheating and lying, render him inapt to properly assume the role of president of the world’s most powerful democratic nation. His autocratic style of governance even prompted a number of commentators to express serious concern for the sustainability of American democracy if he were re-elected.

His refusal to acknowledge defeat following the election of Joe Biden, and his brutal “termination” of Mark Esper as Secretary of Defence for having refused to deploy military forces against the civil population for protesting against the police assassination of George Floyd (“I can’t breathe”) does nothing to allay these fears.

It is not surprising that some observers see American democracy poised on a slippery slope dangerously tilted towards autocracy and tyranny.

You conclude : “What this election victory for Biden promises is a eunuch presidency, one weak and emasculated before it begins”. I think it would be more appropriate to quote the old Spanish proverb : “rectificar es de sabios” [“to rectify is for the wise”].

It could be that “sleepy old Joe” may well be just the right man in the right place at the right time. The “old sage” may have just what is needed to “rectify” the hate and division fuelled by the cynic and impetuous Donald Trump.

Time will tell, and it will probably be not too long before we find out, but, if “sleepy old Joe” succeeds in doing that, we can all breathe freely again.
