President Trump’s third Supreme Court pick will bring America to existential crossroads : Comments

By David Pellowe, published 24/9/2020

The most inconvenient obstacles to the Left's vision of social revolution are economic liberty, the proven institutions of traditional family, national patriotism and Christianity & objective morality.

A well written piece of partisan propaganda, but I hope it happens!
I wondered if sky news had a hand in it.

Why does this diatribe from the other side of the world, full of "right-thinking" and with God on-side, fill me with fear, not only for our American friends but for the rest of the world?

At least with another Trump appointment to the US supreme court there is some chance of justice returning to the US justice system.

Having said that, I don't believe there is any place for any government, church or do gooder in any decision of what a pregnant woman does with any fetus she is carrying. It is presumptuous in the extreme for any one to think they have any right to enforce their opinion on another.

democrats pretend to cry over 200000 covid deaths (many their own making) while cheering on the slaughter of millions of unborn children.

Ah yes, David. the only impeached President in the history of American democracy would be held up making a "moral choice" based on "traditional moral objectives"? LOL!

Ths will surely be the worst political error of this immoral pussy-grabbing misogynist/patent white supremist, racist? [I mean, if it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck? Then in all probability,it'll be a duck?]

He'll probably succeed in pushing it through with the help of his, fine feahered, birds of a feather, supporters (Sergeant Schulz's syndrome) in the Republican party?

And with that success, millions of outraged women from all political persasion and ethnecity will come out and vote! And very likely ensure the democratics win in both houses and in the presidential race. And with that advantage appoint a few more Judges from the liberals, to weigh the court intheir favour?

And without the robes of office to protect him? Trump will have to face the music and the evidence he successfully quashed while in office? And because the master salesman and manipulator, is very poorly advised, personally politically inept and hasn't a political clue in his shot locker? [Al Capone would have remained untouchable but for tax evasion!]

Given he seems to believe that appointing a female will placate the outraged feminists, who otherwise, I believe, would have stayed at home and not bothered!

The appointment will only be about abortion, and Trump will only appoint a (female) jurist who will agree (tacitly) to overturn Roe v Wade.

Then we can go back to the preferred system of the evangelicals, where abortions are easily bought by rich women, and poor women have the baby. Neat

The "diatribe" does not come from the "the other side of the world". It is written by an Australian Presbyterian minister. I agree that we hear too much about Donald Trump and American politics when our own politicians are such a disgrace, but it is nice to be reminded that unelected judges don't have the same influence in our country that they do in America.

The horrible little Ginsberg woman had the wish not to die until America had a new president. Stiff cheese, lady; you lost. Trump will be able to appoint a conservative judge (which he can do on a temporary basis without Senate approval). It will be a female, anti-abortionist.

What is real astonishing about the whole RBG replacement brouhaha is the way pretty much everyone managed to change their principles from 2016.

Back then the Obamesssiah was president and the Republicans ran the Senate. Following the death of Scalia, Obama had the chance to replace a solid conservative with a solid 'progressive' and change the balance in the court to 5-4 in favour of the 'progressives'.

Obama and a host of Democrats including, but not limited to, both Clintons, Pelosi, Schumer and Biden all proclaimed that, even though Obama's reign was winding down, nonetheless he had the duty to appoint a replacement and the Senate had a duty to vote on it.

The Republican leadership on the other hand, all proclaimed that, since a new president would soon be appointed, the appointment should await that new president. Since they controlled the Senate they simply decided that they wouldn't hold a vote even when Obama presented his candidate.

Now everyone's position is changed. The Democrats are saying that its too close to the election and the appointment should await a new administration. And the Republicans are saying that its the duty of the Senate to vote on any candidate the president offers.

The stakes are high. The Senate was previously 4 progressives, 4 conservatives and 1 nominal but floating conservative. A Trump appointment will give a solid 5-4 or 6-3 conservative Supreme Court for quite a long time to come - possibly a decade or more.

The changing views show that this is all about raw power. Principles run a distant second. That they don't care who sees it, is the really disturbing thing.

Just on Roe v Wade ...

If the Supreme Court were to reverse its current position on that issue, it wouldn't result in a return to backyard abortions or whatever is the current scaremongering.

What would happen is that the issues around abortion would return to the individual states to decide for their jurisdictions. The 'progressive' states would immediately implement abortion on demand up to and including 9 months.

Conservative and other states would implement a range of other policies from total bans through to abortions allowed up to say 20 weeks.

The trope about rampant backyard abortions was always propaganda, not fact. But irrespective, it won't return. Even in those places which ban abortion, they are incapable of stopping someone from going to another state to get it and there will be plenty of such states and, one would imagine, plenty of charities around to finance the trip.

In reality, the urge to protect RoevWade is about protecting the business model of the abortion providers like Planned Parenthood, who are massive donors to the Democrats. One hand washes the other, which is more than can be said of some of the abortion providers....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermit_Gosnell

'The trope about rampant backyard abortions was always propaganda,'

neither was the lie that democrats used to justify killing babies in the first place. Remember it was always about that poor 14 year old girl who was raped. Meanwhile you have deviants from Hollywood holding up trophies boasting about killing their child. What a sick mob.

Over-turning Roe vs Wade will simply return the decision on the legality and availability of abortion to the individual States, where some states once allowed and others disallowed abortion at various stages. It also means the Federal taxpayer will not fund abortions or their promotion..

Psychologically an assessment of the morality of those on the left and their violent activists would astonish most people.
A read of Jean Piaget and his work, 'The Moral Judgement of The Child', shows quite clearly all those adherents of the left, by their various expressions and actions, as likely still in the Heteronomous stage.

I'd opine that is common to all the proponents of the deviate or odd propositions we see being paraded as 'progressive' and foisted upon us today. It is also why those of us in the Autonomous stage baulk at almost all the 'progressive' pronouncements.

oh IO also meant to mention cognitive development and intellectual development are quite separate from morality development. ie even the most intellectually able, like Ginsberg, could be heteronomous.

I think it's plain stupid to have such old bureaucrats in positions of power. Advisory by all means but in Power ? NO ! Max 70 for Judges ! No Life-time appointments !
Heads of State, PMs' & Presidents should also have an age limit of 75.
Minimum age for politicians should be 37-40 & max age for bureaudroids 65. We have politicians in their 20's with not a single ounce of experience, it's ludicrous.
And, some people are surprised why bureaucracy is a full-blown example of stupidity !

Why not check out an essay by Chrissy Stroop titled:
Christian Right Claims to be "Above Poiltics" Are Unbelievable on the Religion Dispatches website.
I would extend the title of her essay and "originalism" too. Because such claims are an in-your-face power play while pretending to be otherwise.

The Religion Dispatches also provides much useful contexts to help understand the nature of right-wing so called conservative christian politics.

Put in another way this gambit is one more step to consolidate and create an American theocracy. William Barr the US attorney general is an Opus Dei operative, as is the director of the Federalist Society, the outfit which provides the people for Trump, Barr and McConnell to install as judges.

Some books to provide more context.
American Fascists by Chris Hedges
Kingdom Come by Michelle Goldberg
American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips.

Plus check out the always excellent Open Tabernacle website for a comprehensive overview of right wing christian politics, especially that of right wing "catholics".

Alan B,

Trump is not the only impeached president.

RGB was nominated to the Supreme Court by Clinton who was also impeached.

The reality is that while the President nominates candidates, the Senate is there to review and ensure that the candidate is suitable. The Democrats were the first to politicise the choices and have since done so so shamelessly that they are essentially reaping what they sowed.

I wonder, though, if he's going to be someone who's going to be able to go through both an impeachment procedure and a reelection.
By the way, since there's a Republican majority in both houses, isn't there going to be an impeachment attempt in the case of a Biden victory?

I warned on here before Pres Trump was elected that our courts had been weaponised and used against us, by people who are pro globalist with anti-sovereignty agendas

These judges are unelected by the people although presumably appointed by different governments elected by the people. The trouble is that doesn’t really ensure the balance of unbiased opinion in the courts, because the judges are only replaced as far as I know, when a judge retire or dies.

This means 3 could resign or die, in one term of government, so they get to choose 3 new judges during their term and the next elected government might not get to appoint any at all.

WE MUST GUARD VERY SERIOUSLY, and keep a balance of opinion, in
THE ESTATES AND INSTITUTIONS OF POWER that underpin our democracies.

3 ESTATES OF POWER
1. The news media.
2. The Judiciary
3. The Governments,
4. The Clergy

Authoritarian monopoly control, especially, in the news reporting ares
and Control of the Ajudicating courts

Will lead to a government that is practically unremovable
The leftwing will consolidate that objective, that they are very close to , if they can beat Pres Trump.in this election.

THE BIG TECH CORPORATIONS are also propagandaising against him., because they are after all globalist corporations who want no threat to their wealth and global, power, something a strong leader like Pres Trump could threaten because he is acting in the people’s interest, to bring some prosperity and power back to the ordinary people in America.

The CABAL. ranged against him is coming out in force everywhere, with day and night propaganda flashed across screens and Newspapers everywhere.
Such is the power now being used agaunst any future voting choice of the common people.

It is ANTI-DEMOCRACY and total power to us, on show for those who can see behind this, Globalist players,Democratic politicians and Big corporations running with the Democrats.

What people have always feared, a secretive alliance between global players isn’t happening at some point in the future, it is happening in America the leading Nation of the World right now.b
