Toilet paper blues: coronavirus and pandemic pantries : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 13/3/2020

In Japan, toilets for customers are replete with threatening language promising to punish the paper pinchers.

Truly amazing.
We manufacture just about zilch in this country but we manage to make toilet paper.
What have we become and is there an export market for it?

People dealt with two world wars better than they are handling the China virus. In this country, multiculturalism has killed the Australian ethos and we have people fighting in the aisles over toilet paper.

It has been suggested that the virtual shutdown and lack of activity is just what the Green and climate crooks want:

" …. it could deliver almost everything the climate alarmists have been asking for, with severe reductions in, or restraints on fossil fuels, air travel, shipping, automobiles, livestock, plastics and in fact the whole spectrum of capitalist and consumerist activity."

I truly cannot understand why the run on toilet paper. There are far more essential items people will need if the virus becomes widespread and we all need to stay home where possible. Paracetamol or Nurufen for a start. Food. Soap to wash hands. Detergent to wash clothes, etc.
The human race managed without toilet paper until recently, when paper became cheap enough to waste wiping your backside.
Mass stupidity is an amazing thing.

From 9 News:

"Woolworths today confirmed it has also taken the extra step of refusing to refund any shopper who may have mass-bought certain items and then felt remorseful after the transaction".

How crazy to think that the morons who are hoarding toilet paper - for no good reason - would then want to return it. And human beings are supposed to be a higher species!

If only it would kill more people it'd be everything the neo-Malthusians wished for.

Oh, and the no refund policy also extends to the baked beans and other tinned rubbish the morons have bought up. And the bottles of water - stuff that has still been running freely from taps at a fraction of the cost. This is a good time for all the Lefties who say that they 'are embarrassed to be Australians' for one reason or another to feel really, really embarrassed.

How can you possibly state "And human beings are supposed to be a higher species!" when human beings are the ONLY animal species actively engaged in destroying their ONLY environment for their own selfish greed.
Their only life support system.
Human beings are but just another species of animal. Different perhaps but certainly not "higher".

I figure the toilet rolls are destined for use in air filters in homemade face masks, given the whole rolls make excellent oil filters. I mean some of the stockpiling would last a hundred years, even with severe liquid dysentery? But make millions as the production of, toilet roll filter, face masks are ramped up?

Coronavirus will hit us harder during our winter when folk shut all their windows and heat their domiciles. Viruses don't survive long in the cold or exposed to the UV of full sunlight!

So, remember to keep enough widow open to thoroughly cross ventilate and beat the cold by rugging up or find a sunny spot to warm up in. Wear a hat and long sleeves/long pants etc. Get warm that way out in the fresh air.

Wipe surfaces with an alcohol wipe, that have been touched by hands that have touched other hands or surfaces touched by many hands. Could include your phone and the inside of your car, steering wheel, gear lever etc, but particularly if the vehicle has multiple drivers.

Keep your hands behind your back and locked together, if you are a face toucher!

It seems to me, the sudden and huge number of fatalities to this disease in Italy, may have something to do with the northern winter and unventilated, heated domiciles?

As for us? Time o bring in spacing in public places, essential rallying/meeting points, so much of what we watch is televised and most face to face meetings can be teleconferenced, at least until an effective vaccine becomes available.

In the meantime, our economy would be supported and grow if we just lift our self imposed, absurdly asinine, prohibition on nuclear energy! And with it, huge swathes of nuclear medicine!

This one measure could unlock trillions of investment dollars and R+D here! And you don't need a PhD in economics to understand just that!

Well I've got 60 rolls, 4 boxes of tissues and a pk of strategic wipees in my pandemic pantry.
Enough to keep me going for a year, so I don't give a crap;
- Or maybe I do that's the point!

Dear Ttbn,

«it could deliver almost everything the climate alarmists have been asking for, with severe reductions in, or restraints on fossil fuels, air travel, shipping, automobiles, livestock, plastics and in fact the whole spectrum of capitalist and consumerist activity.»

None of that would satisfy them because what they really want is your sympathy. Please understand that their wish that you reduce or eliminate the above list is only symbolic: once they have you around their own campfire, it would not matter how high the flames are.

Woolworths' policy regarding the sale and returns of fast moving consumer goods needs to be revised as it is clearly flawed.

The supermarket is limiting purchases of toilet paper to 4. But that isn't 4 ROLLS it is 4 PACKAGES. Some packages have 8 rolls and some have up to 36. How equitable is a policy that allows one shopper to buy say 8x4, being 32 rolls, while another can walk out with 4x36 or 144 rolls?

Also the edict that no returns for change of mind purchases needs to be upended as it only benefits Woolworths' and its suppliers, as it inconveniences panic stricken shoppers who want to return over-bought goods, which could be then sold to those folk who really need those consumables.

Dear Yuyutsu,

Apparently Morrison says no need to act on Covid-19 as Australia only contributes 1% of infections.
http://chaser.com.au/national/morrison-says-no-need-to-act-on-covid-19-as-australia-only-contributes-1-of-infections/

When challenged on it he was said to have retorted "I don't hold a stethoscope mate".

Also I've read the Australian has reported "We’ve always had viruses in Australia so this is nothing to be worried about. Also we also need to have a conversation about the fact that the majority of the infections are deliberately spread by ‘viral arsonists’!"

Dear SteeleRedux,

In regards to Covid-19, indeed this is not a matter for politicians, but rather for each and every one of us - let us all keep physical distance from others and avoid places where we might be infected and/or infect others. Just be responsible yourself and don't listen to them: if politicians like to get the disease, then let them get it themselves.

And yes, this also means that you need to, if you have not done so already, have enough toilet paper and other necessary commodities at home, for a few months stay without having to go outside to the shops and risk yourself, your family and others.

Don't listen to Yuyustu's good advice. But Scomo's and just go about your normal business as if there wasn't a killer pandemic on the loose.

I mean, in Italy, we learnt that a few cases had been diagnosed and within literal weeks there were a thousand dead!

But don't you worry about that, we will not stop this virus, and once it's done its job and emptied out the nursing homes and bumped off the most vulnerable, those that cannot afford doctors, medicine and hospitals, are no longer a drain on the budget!

The rest of us with stronger immune systems will probably survive?

Winter is the season for coughs colds, flu and viral infections partly because we close up our domiciles and keep breathing the same stale air.

And keep the joint warm enough for the virus to survive for a week outside a human host. And do not go out in full sunlight, so you can avoid upping your vitamin D intake and with it, boost your immune response!

Remember that your guest doesn't survive in the cold and doesn't care for alcohol wipes on phones and such where it may survive for up to a week. It loves face touches and you touching yours out of habit!

And hates good hygiene and regular hand washing! If we all avoid close contact, choose not to congregate and work or study from home whenever possible, wear gloves and face masks when forced to use public transport?

We might not bump off enough old, sick and unemployed poor folk? All of who are a waste of space and a drain on the taxpayer.

So let's not get too efficient in refusing to spread this very opportunistic bug.

After all, it's the economy stupid!

Why don't you just all bite the bullet and accept that the coronavirus is part of our Chinese future? And there will be a lot more viruses and diseases coming out of China in the future. Why you ask? Simple - Because they are the filthiest bunch of parasites on the face of the planet.

I reckon the Chinese are more than likely buying everything off the shelves and stockpiling grocery items in their garages in the expectation of making a killing when people become desperate for items and become willing to pay ten times the price.

Me?

I want an endless supply of guitar strings.

With an appropriate diet suitable for the human body, toilet paper is almost not needed.

Cows have a special natural flap at the base of their anus to accomodate a scoured bowel movement.
Maybe the Chinese could design a plastic replica suitable for humans to attach to their sphincter, thus eliminating the need for toilet paper.

Dan. Planning to install a bidet. Not the kind with a built-in Tampax remover as that may smart just a little? I hear they have running hot and cold water, simultaneously and mixed. Given, separate individual jets may see one airborne! Or the offended (@!#%^&*) organs seeking refuge in their boyhood/childhood home?

Some even come with a flow of warm air to dry you off when you are done? So one doesn't need to touch backside or toilet tissue ever again? Those who might want to boost their immunity? Might like to try black seed oil. Grown and harvested here in the sunshine state.
Tell them, Alan sent you.

Mr. Opinion reminds us who we have to thank for the China virus. Not a bad thing, given that the fact is being pushed into the background by the hysterical noise and actions of Western countries e.g Italy with mere 0.02% of its population affected.

However, I would prefer that he wasn't so harsh on the Chinese people and concentrated on the real villains: the Chinese Communist Party, and the theory, firmly silenced by the media, about germ warfare.

I'm not suggesting that the CCP released the virus - particularly in their own dunghill - in this instance; but it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the thing escaped from a laboratory engaged in germ warfare.

Think about the lack of information coming from China. Deadly silence, almost.

Think about the silence surrounding the deaths, or disappearances, of the Chinese scientists who first raised the alarm.

Think about the fact that our own scientists say what information has come out of China cannot be trusted. Communist totalitarianism is not trustworthy

Hey ttbn,
I think you and Mr Opinion, as well as others who've jumped on the corporate media narrative are being played for idiots.
They're not telling you the truth.

Issue 1.
COVID-19 didn't start in the market in China.
It most likely came from US Bioweapons lab in Fort Detrich.

Issue 2.
A second strain was in all likeliness weaponised by Israel to attack Iran.
This strain inadvertently affected Italians, who genome is very similar to Iranians.

The truth is out, it's just likely that your news isn't going to tell it to you.

Struth, the anti-Semites will fall for anything.

China sets out to deflect its utter culpability and the usual dills and anti-western flying monkeys fall into line. They always do.

Italians and Iranians have similar genome? Wow. Only insofar as they all relate back to Africa. But who needs facts when you can just blame the Jews.
BTW, most of the problems in Italy are in the north and they are mainly from German stock. If the claim is right then why aren't the Germans falling over as well. Oh sorry, what's logic got to do with it, eh?

The garden hose Has? I hear the Nazis tried that only to discover anything more than 7 pounds per square inch could burst a human bowel, And at the point of entry without the hose necessarily inserted. My Mother was chased by a garden hose once with a full head of pressure and followed like a determined dog, spraying her up her britches with ice-cold, evil intent.

To this day, never saw a lady run as fast in every different direction or jump so high screaming at the top of her lungs turn it off. Turn it off.

A local legend was peddling a bike to a marriage rehearsal, and dressed to the nines, top hat and tails, right down to spats on the shoes. Anyhow saw Mother prancing all over the front lawn and threw back his head in hysterical abandon and rode straight into the river just as I turned off the hose.

Who's #@%^&*@& laughing now aked a furious Mum until the poor blighter screeched, Help, help, I can't swim! Help help!. And splashed furiously all the while as Mother and I enjoyed his displeasure, given that stream came directly off of melting snow and ice.

Imagine he went from a sonorous baritone to a castra tenor in just a few seconds of initial, sudden deadly breath intake, seconds

You've all experienced it haven't you when ice cold hits the unmentionables.

Anyhow when we'd had our fill of the poor bedraggled merriment. Mother advised him, that she'd never seen anyone drown in water just waist-deep, and just stand up and walk out. And don't forget the bike.
Cheers, Alan B.

This virus came from and started in China! And like HIV, Ebola, Sars and Hendra came from the animal kingdom and able to jump cross species! The difference with this (Sars2) coronavirus, is its ability to pass directly from human to human and before any symptoms are evidenced.

Our response is, first and foremost, ignorant panic and on steroids!

The governments approach? Slow down the rate of transmission while ensuring all Pollies and the highly placed, the wealthy and privileged have reserve supplies of antivirals?

And allow a gradual managed transmission to build up herd immunity.

Even if this results in the death our thousands of old folk, the weak and vulnerable? And those too poor to stop work and go see a doctor, buy essential life-saving antivirals?

And in one fell swoop, cleanout the swamp? Via, she'll be right, calloused indifference?

Not to worry, they'll all be labor supporters, left-leaning loony tunes etc. and no loss?

Capiche?

Dear individual,

What on earth are you talking about. David Speer did not serially interrupt the guests at all. He pulled Greg Hunt up a few times mainly because Hunt is well known for stretching out his answers to lessen exposure to having to deal with difficult questions.

The CMO was obviously talking around the sticky political questions which was fine but Speer rightly asked him on specifics such as going to the movies which I have no problem with. Why do you?

When Hunt took his answers over 30 seconds, especially when he was prattling on about how good a job his government was doing, Speers was right to call him to order.

Why on earth do you get your knickers in a knot when any member of the government is challenged even in the slightest? You use to deride all politicians, now it's hands off your mob. How do you think this serves Australia?

Dear individual,

Concise? Hardly. How many times did they both dodge the question about whether an over 70 year old should go to a crowded movie theater?

The CMO was saying inane things like this will get worse and when it does we will elevate the protocols then. Well how about instituting them now to try and prevent things getting worse.

I ask again, why do you feel the need to be an apologist for this government minister who for all his posturing has not stepped up to the degree he should have.

We seem to be constantly playing catch up with the likes of New Zealand. Canada is considering closing its border with the US. We should have done it at least a week ago.

Only the most sycophantic could be happy with the way this government has deealt with this so far. Scomo saying we should be avoiding lrge gatherings but insisting he would be going to the footy. The cabinet refusing to be tested or self isolating after contact with Dutton. Perhaps it wouldn't have made one iota of difference but it certainly would have sent the right message.

Tossers the lot of them.

SteeleRedux,
Why even ask ? That's the stupidity of it ! I'm 70 & I know that if I go into a crowded room I risk contracting this & other viruses. The two answered the git with the same phrase "the situation changes from day to day" yet the git kept asking for precise predictions whilst the two kept saying "we need to wait & see".
Only over educated people are so stupid that need to be told precisely how to behave. The average village idiot knows that it goes without saying that you're safer staying away from mass gatherings full stop. The over educated pseudo intellectuals need to ask if & when they should do something that is not even necessary yet exposes them to the virus ??
The idiotic notion of 'so, it's ok to go tonight but not tomorrow" because the Govt said as of tomorrow we close this & that venue it is safe tonight but not tomorrow ?
The Govt has the responsibility of giving notice to businesses to adjust. A business is not like the Public Service where funding comes in no matter if you perform or not.
Everyone knows about the virus by know yet some still need to be told how to behave minute by minute. That shows how stupid some are including Speers !
