The victory of small visions: Scott Morrison retains government : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 21/5/2019

Throughout the Howard years, federal Labor found itself constantly incapable of recovering the 'aspirational' blue collar voters who had found comfort in the arms of the conservative Coalition government.

I love this author. I never leave one of his articulate articles, feeling lonely anymore.
So incredibly on the mark.

Yes, it was as it seems a contest of poiosonalities. With SM being more negative and relying on the average punter's stupidity and a willingness to believe the worst?

And Labor's Juxtaposition on coal, helped SM enormously, as did those fake polls that allowed the indolent youth to as is their usual practice, sit on their asses or just draw pics of penises on ballot papers. And the last demographic could be as high as 40% of young (under 35?) voters!?

Preaching by various Labor personalities about where folk should place their vote isn't/hasn't helped.

The only thing that would eliminate the influence of minor parties is optional preferencing. or a change to first past the post and a runoff between the two main protagonists if nobody gets past 50%! Otherwise get set for more of the same and business as usual with unsustainable unaffordable entitlements continuing and becoming larger than our social security burden and housing set to again become more and more unaffordable, As the economy tanks due to a distinct lack of stimulus and domestic discretionary spending.

It's all well and good for the well-heeled left-leaning environmentalist to peddle their ultra expensive remedies and expect those who simply cannot afford their ultra-narrow vision to pay for it!

It's times like these that make me glad I'm old and not around for too much longer as unchanged and idiotic ideologies send the world to hell in a handbasket!

And the Labor party as always are a party of puppets unable to implement future vision due to the control of their string pulling masters and the toxic atmosphere inside the major parties? To the point, those with genuine talent are completely turned off!

Rather than disentangling Binoy's turgid prose try this explanation:

Australians are not ready for yet another political change like SWAPPING A PM again. Instead our votes pointed to a need for continuity, JOBS and LOWER TAXES, not the uncertainties of Labor.

The Australian media are making a big thing of the "unexpected" defeat of Shorten's Labor Party but Shorten was ONLY AHEAD 1-2% in the pre-Election SURVEYS.

SCOMO is an intelligent and moderate-CENTRIST who could just as easily be a Democrat on the American scale.

Also hurting lackluster Labor included the presumption that most of the electorate are worried about CLIMATE CHANGE when most rate jobs and economic stability higher.

Labor was particularly hurt in QUEENSLAND when Labor and Greens from the southern states wanted to cancel the future Adani coal project for Climate Change and rare species reasons . Queenslanders resented these southerners and rated more highly Adani's future jobs and its positive impact on Queensland's economy .

Also Labor did poorly in WESTERN AUSTRALIA where mining, oil and gas are job creaters even if this effects Labor's concern for the environment.

Finally SHORTEN is a bit of a DWEEB, UNPOPULAR with the electorate.

Cheers

Pete

Yes. The 'woman thing’ didn't work for Labor, and it will not work for any politicians. I suspect that it doesn't work for women, either. Women are doing okay in their in the own right, and puppy dog blokes are just making themselves look pathetic. I mean, do sensible woman really think that male 'feminists’ grandstand for anything but their party's advantage and plain old votes. Patronising women has proved to be a big flop, just like all other Labor brainstorms and a little bloke with manboobs.

Well what do you know, Binoy has been warned, & has scuttled back into the acceptable left leaning expected of someone who wants his daily crust provided by academia. No longer the free thinker of his last few articles, but again a disciplined member of the left elite.

He even thinks he can see "vision" in the politics of envy, & class warfare Shorten tried to use to gain entrance to the lodge. "Shorten, in contrast, exuded agitation and weariness" says Binoy, where what most thinking people saw was a shiftiness that could not be trusted. The man offered rewards to the worst elements of Oz society in return for their vote.

Binoy, if you want to be taken seriously, you have a choice. Continue as you were, questioning the things lefty academia hold dear, or tell the truth, be respected by real people, & find some other way of earning your living, other than toeing the academic line.

So in comes Alan, with more of Binoy's vision thing. May god protect us from people with vision. What we want in parliament is good managers, who will let us get on with our vision.

Hitler had vision, as did Starlin. Chairman Mao had vision, as did Churchill. Bung in General MacArthur & his vision & you can see that vision is a great thing, if you want to get a lot of ordinary folk killed. When it comes to running a country, it is extremely wasteful of resources & people. Pink Bats, or an NBN anyone? How about windmills & electric cars?

What we want is efficient managers, let the people supply the vision, at their own expense. I have yet to see any government pick a winner & be right. How about some last century diesel subs folks?

I feel like the more left wing type partys shouldn't delay the sweet 1 thousand dollars tax refund so that less well off families in western Sydney can afford beanies and warm socks for their kids in what will be another chilly winter no doubt

Hasbeen:
I both resent and reject any comparison between me and Hitler or Stalin. Oh and on that vision thing? You as always mock! Yours never seems to extend past your front gate or include any other than your immediate family? I get that you reject lower taxes and much-much smaller government!? Or voting on the policies put up any other party.

I voted for Katter this time around, even though I disagree with some of the things he stands for. At least you know he's fair dinkum and gives a rats for his fellow Australians.

Which doesn't shine through in any of your self-centred me-me and mine postings!

As for vision? Vision would allow us to continue to use coal if that's the consensus, until we've used all we have! Suggest you read me on my Sunday and Monday postings.

I also get that you don't give a rats about climate change of the future for mine or your grandkids, given neither of us is likely to be around when the evidence of its reality is inescapable even for ageing moribund recalcitrants of your political disposition?

This nation needs a vision that unites it not more of the divide and rule (Sargent Schulz syndrome) rubbish peddled by advocates like you and your ultra-conservative cabal.

We could WITH THE MOCKED VISION make the deserts bloom and drought-proof the nation plus completely resuscitate our manufacturing sector and indeed compete with China for market share in quality manufactured goods, steel and aluminium production.

( Me, myself and I) Folk like you only ever know all the ratbag reasons it won't work or can't be done and there are too many of you now at the helm in the ships of state!

It was vision that created the engineering marvel of the world, the Snowy Mountains scheme and we haven't seen its like here in this country since.

Little wonder Menzies wept when his mate Ben Chiefly died.

The reality is that unchecked control by the left is inevitably catastrophic. 18c and the notion of moving away from a cheap electricity supply are two issues I hope the Morrison government will address. Whenever Labor is in power I am always worried about deranged ego inspired bonfires burning huge quantities of taxpayer dollars as well as the inevitable persecution of the innocent. On the latter note I look forward to George Pell's appeal.

But Hitler and Stalin were great blokes who commanded* respect, weren't they?

No matter how some Lefties & Righties are trying to vie for one-upmanship in silly posts, the reality of this election was down to well, reality !
Idealist sentiments go out the window when there's uncertainty in the hip pocket looming.
I just pray that Scomo doesn't do an Abbott & delivers on getting local economies rolling !

“The Queensland towns that will remember their decimated house prices on Election Day” (Domain headline).

https://www.domain.com.au/news/the-queensland-towns-who-will-remember-their-decimated-house-prices-on-election-day-836422/?utm_source=brisbanetimes.com.au&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=link-widget&utm_campaign=plista-bt

Nothing about jobs really Alan B. And unlikely also Queenslanders give a toss about coal.

It's also unlikely Australians will find the jobs with Adani. Invariably, those positions will be filled with 457 visas. Cheap foreign labour.

This is probably a more sensible view of things, which fits pretty neatly with your comment on the numbers of disaffected youth, and their disdain of voting.
It's also most unlikely the youth so performing, will benefit from capital gains on investment properties, when Adani opens either.

I discussed the simple method of tearing up a ballot paper, with a group of young blokes on my way out from (not) voting. They were impressed enough to happily head inside to follow suit.
That would make four votes torn up in the ten minutes I was there.

I think you'll find it's more than the young and restless defacing ballot papers.

South Africa was also in a state of riot on Election Day. Locals were rioting outside polling stations in an attempt to halt the process of electing the usual criminal elites (ANC).

I think it's obvious, Democracy is simply a feeding frenzy for the upper echelons. The word is out!

Alan you are too self centred to have any idea about me.

I voted for Katter too. He's a ratbag, but his heart is in the right place. Voted for Anning too, if the ABC attack someone, they must be OK.

I don't like stupid pie in the sky rubbish. It simply wastes money needed for real stuff. Hell, have you noticed, even California has had enough sense to cancel their fool fast rail project. Why on earth would you want a taxpayer funded, huge loss making transport system, when airlines can do the job profitably.

You are dead right I am not stupid enough to believe the global warming scam. I actually spent 3 months getting my math back up to when I finished Uni, so I could actually follow the formula, & understand the arguments.

There is no way any amount of CO2 can add more than 0.6C to the planets temperature. There are some pretty good arguments that suggest CO2 is actually a cooling agent. They seem to work when you follow the math, but they depend on assumptions almost as shaky as the assumptions that global warming depends on.

With out their tipping points, not mentioned for some time, as the assumptions there are about as shaky as windmills, the global warmers can't get enough warming to make you need a big hat.

Time to stop chasing the latest trendy day dream, & join the real world little man.

Concentrate on decreasing pollution because that's a problem we CAN tackle unlike GW.
Keep those wide-eyed open-mouthed academic "experts" away from anything to do with pragmatism & reality & real progress will result rather than the progressive regress caused by these "Experts".

So there (retrospectively) you have it from the experts. Small (even invisible to some) errors are blown up and become fatal to the cause. Large and consistent errors of performance ($55 billion NBN 2.0 anyone? Megabuck press conferences) are both forgiven and forgotten and their perpetrators rewarded. Obvious really. The fourth estate played no part.
