Australia’s Jerusalem embassy move sinks in sea of Islamic threats : Comments

By David Singer, published 28/11/2018

Indonesia and Malaysia – two Islamic states – flex their muscles on Islamic claims to Jerusalem - yet pathetically fail to financially support their Islamic brethren.

A decision to move the embassy should have been done for purely pragmatic reasons not for rank political advantage. There can be little doubt that Morrison did it to try to save Wentworth.

It should have been done in support of the USA's push to try to convince the Palestinian leadership that they can't win by simply doing nothing and waiting for the whole thing to fall into their laps. A rush of nations moving their consulates might be the straw that finally causes them to negotiate in good faith.

Instead our position is now a hodgepodge of competing political positioning. Julie Bishop was a mess as Foreign Minister but I suspect she'd have done better than this.

All that said, having screwed up by announcing that they were considering the change they cannot now walk away from it in the face of such open pressuring from the Islamic neighbours.

Mahathir is an anti-semite from way back. The notion that we should style our foreign policy to suit him or to avoid terrorist attacks is ludicrous. IF we give into such threats where will it stop?

Equally we cannot let Indonesia control our policy based on economic threats. One presumes they saw some advantages for them in the Free Trade deal. Call their bluff. If they want to surrender those advantages to protect the Palestinians then let 'em. Cancel the free trade deal and then quietly advise them that we are reconsidering our foreign aid budget to favour those in the region with whom we have growing trade. Oh, "so sorry but your budget might be cut".

The Libs have caved on almost every issue since 2013. I suspect we won't see anyone suddenly growing a backbone on this issue either.

at the end of the day the US President showed the fortitude to do the right thing. He makes all the others look like cowards. Clinton, Bush and Obama promised to move Embassy to Jerusalem and lacked the backbone to do so. Australia can continue to be gutless and bow to the Islamic world somehow stupidly enough thinking we will win their favour. It has not stop the terrorist to date and will not in future. The globalist and terrorist continue to use each other as useful idiots.

Dear Bazz,

«The main problem is that the muslims have been quite emphatic that there is no place for any Jews in any solution.»

All Muslims?

It's mainly the Shiites of Iran and Hezbollah. Egypt and Jordan are at peace with Israel, Morocco and Tunisia have informal ties with Israel, relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia and gulf states are warming; and most of the so-called "Palestinians" have accepted the Jews of Israel long ago, within Israel's pre-1967 borders. Between 1967 and until the Jewish settlers came (around 1975-1976), they lived in peace with Israel, they welcomed Israeli tourists that gave them unprecedented prosperity and they worked and travelled freely in Israel without any road-blocks. But then, who wants to accept people who steal your land and cut down your trees?

---

Dear plantagenet,

«As is frequent in your regular Israel propaganda pieces you've got it wrong»

The author's pieces are not propaganda for Israel, but rather for his own Jewish sect. In fact, his suggestions would only hurt Israel.

If his plans are successful, then by retaining even 5% of the West Bank, especially Eastern Jerusalem, Israel will continue to be corrupted from within by its own 1967 occupation and will not be able to heal itself. Further, the "Palestinians" would soon overtake Jordan, cancel its peace agreement with Israel and Israel would then find a larger and more formidable enemy across its Eastern border.
