By Peter Sellick, published 22/9/2016My particular focus in this essay is on how writers of the gospels use the imagery of the end of the world to interpret the death of Jesus.

Daffy, the article you linked at:
http://beezone.com/adidajesus/adamnervoussystemeveflesh.html "It is important to recognize that conventional consciousness and interests also include all the baggage of conventional spirituality, all the outer forms of priestliness, all the Pharisaic nonsense-your robes, your philosophers, your sitting at the head of the table, your "I belong to this and you are crazy," and all the beads and trappings and concepts and symbols and cultishness. These are not the sign of spiritual awakening. They are part of the ordinary consciousness, just as ordinary as gray flannel suits and Madison Avenue." It isn't the gray flannel suits, or the Armani suited rats in parliaments & senates around the world hiding behind their 'Holy War', 'War on Terror', Wars on whatever' either. It involves the whole cabal of 'mind control agents' in vestments, cassocks, robes, thwabs and suits down through the ages. Religion is just another way of controlling the masses and a means to propping up those too weak to take control of their own destinies. I have no issue with anyone subscribing to whatever view floats your boat...but don't expect me to sail with you. Posted by Albie Manton in Darwin, Thursday, 22 September 2016 3:40:39 PM

Dear Albie,
It is so sad to observe what people have been doing in the name of religion to the extent that you now write: "Religion is just another way of controlling the masses". I cannot blame you from your own point of view because if others ignorantly tell you, "Yes, what we do is religion", then I can well understand your conclusion, albeit wrong assumptions lead to wrong conclusions. You also stated: "and a means to propping up those too weak to take control of their own destinies". But do you know anyone who is strong enough to control their own destiny? Propping up the weak, the lost and the destitute is a blessed deed. Posted by Yuyutsu, Friday, 23 September 2016 2:50:53 AM

Yuyutsu,
Religion is a broad enough concept for those who want to commit the most heinous acts in the name of it to do so. We already sorted this at http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?discussion=6579&page=0 There are no untrue Scotsmen here. Posted by AJ Philips, Friday, 23 September 2016 8:01:22 AM

Is religion external or a survival instinct? Humans are sheep not tigers which hunt alone. Peer pressure and social norms control us in minute detail. Romans had Caesars literally as gods. Abraham Lincoln has a deity statue .. and so on across tribes , nations and communists. Kevin 07 and the holy stop the boat prophet were gods.
Is this topic about the Bible text , the practice of power priests or human inhumanity? Posted by nicknamenick, Friday, 23 September 2016 8:40:14 AM

Dear Nick,
«Is this topic about the Bible text, the practice of power priests or human inhumanity?» I think that the author's intention is to instruct his flock in this particular religious technique which involves biblical text: believing the bible and the corresponding theology, is a religious technique and when properly taught and practised, it can elevate its practitioners. Unfortunately, the uncareful author must have selected the wrong forum to spread his teachings, because most of the residents of this forum have not been trained to distinguish between religious techniques and claims pertaining to physical nature. What follows as a result, is undue ridicule of religion, including this talk about "power priests". Posted by Yuyutsu, Friday, 23 September 2016 9:30:13 AM

Or lets pretend fantasy based magical thinking from the first to the last sentence, not one fraction of which has anything to do with the
Truth of the human situation either 2000 years ago (whenever that was) and especially in the now time of the "21st century"
