Closing Manus Island's detention centre: the search for alternative cruelties : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 22/8/2016

The persistent, gruesome alibi in this awful mess has been the good Samaritan nonsense of preventing asylum seekers and refugees from drowning on route to Australia.

Well said, Bazz.

The people-smuggler illegal refugees are free to leave detention and go home or elsewhere but not enter Australia illegally.

This Albie Manton in Darwin is a real joker. He asserts that "they did not stop the boats", then describes how they DID stop the boats. Any new detention centres had to be built to house thousands of Labor's guests, who were still coming, until Abbott got the boats down to a tickle almost immediately, then to nothing in a very short time.

Albie (could this be the near naked, dread-locked character seen for a short time on TV?) suggests that a Prime Minister doing what he was supposed to do - protect our borders - was a Nazi ("Herr Abbott") when it is Albie himself who is using Nazi-like criticism and propoganda to damn what an elected politician rightly did, with the approval of most Australians at the time. As Bertrand Russell suggested, idealism is often a cover for hatred.

Well, while I applaud the sentiment of resettling folk on Heard or MacDonald? THat's as good as opening the door to resettlement in Australia, given the aforementioned are like Christmas Island, australian territory!

Even excising them from that category won't change that or their ongoing dependence! On the plus side, we'd have full and complete control as well as total responsibility!

I like the MacDonald idea, given an active volcano, possibly could be an exploitable heat source to make them nice and warm?

All levity aside, I believe the Malaysian solution needs to be revisited and resurrected, which would effectively put these folk back in humane transit camps and back at the "end" of a queue?

An outcome which will allow them to consider the sheer folly of paying people smugglers thousands (wasted money) for passage back to the "end" of the queue?

We as a middle sized nation have finite resources as well as a modest capacity to resettle displaced people!

Therefore and to be ultimately fair and even handed, while retaining our reputation as a successful, tolerant multicultural nation!

We will decide who comes here, their suitability as intending migrants of good character and the manner of their arrival!

Get a grip for goodness sake! Malaysian Solution? Malaysia has the most corrupt politicians in Asia. We would have to pay them off first.
The fact is if we would send them 400 illegals and accept 4,000 from their camps. Who do you think will pick the 4,000. That's right, the politicians and Public Servants, for a nice little drink of course. Then we would get an even worse crop of bludgers, rapist and thieves than we have now.
Gillard was the total idiot, incapable of doing anything but dodgy deals and backstabbing.

Yes ttbn you have me pegged mate, near naked, dreadlocked and wrestling with the Bayou alligators, as you allude to...ho hum..yet another poor poster who reverts to personal attacks when lack of information gets in the way of a reasonable assertion of opinion - it is after all "On Line Opinion".

Funny how the truth cuts the Lying Nazi Propagandists (LNP supporters) amongst us to the quick. BTW I feel the same about Gizzard, Dudd, Short Circuit and probably the remaining MP's/MLA's and pretty well the whole Parliament ttbn, so I hope I haven't left anyone else out for you to send off a pink bunny blanket and a teddy bear to. Poor Tony...no one loves him any more. I will dance a jig wearing my pink tu-tu and green sand-shoes in Smith Street Mall on the day his mate Terry Sharples rolls over and spills the beans on Herr Fuhrers involvement in One Nation & Australians For Ethical Politics.. I truly will. It isn't too far off either I hear.

Where do you think I gleaned my information for the previous post from? Let's suppose I might have actually been some place in the inner workings of government ttbn and the statement is actually "true"...what then mate ? It's ok...really, the MSM will tell you the truth you want to believe ttbn.

But no matter, just like your troll buddy Shadow Minister who quietly disappeared into hyperspace, you too will be yet another poster here who didn't last the distance. Please stick to information that sheds some light, something at least that contributes to a balanced discourse or for decency's sake just take your drivel elsewhere...please.
