At times like these we should be grateful for our Constitution : Comments

By John de Meyrick, published 7/7/2016

The ‘crisis-breaker’ that a country needs at such times is a respected, independent head of state with the ability and authority to control and resolve any dysfunctional government situation.

Hilarious

** Although by its essential need to be highly respected, widely accepted, entirely independent and impartial, it should never be a role filled by popular election or by a person of political affiliation or known political persuasion.**

Where on earth would you did someone like that from in this country?

Far better to stay with the status quo.

The current result is largely down to the conservatives who are becoming increasingly on the nose with the electorate!

What needs to happen to resolve the impasse and myriad tails trying to wag the dog is another election! ASAP! Only this time with some strong Leadership at the helm along with a raft of much more savory and imaginative policies!

There can be no hint of a whiff of a suggestion that an electorally palatable Leader (Malcolm) can be used simply to win the election then be rolled in favour of a much more conservative leader and non core promises that can then be simply rescinded! Yawol?

And when a promise is made to be honor bound by a simple majority plebiscite! It can't be conditional upon a result the conservatives like!

Cory and his crew need to be shown the door least we have a repeat of this outcome! Gone are the days when autocratic leaders can force their will on the populace then wait for an election three years down the track to see wether it and they stand? And hopefully not affected by a confected emergency or massaged xenophobia!?

Truth from a professional. Pity about the two bird-brained responses.

Doog,

If you think that it is "crap" to believe that our GG is impartial and incapable of making decisions, it is only fair that you enlighten us as to why this is so. Do you have knowledge of the General that the the rest of us do not have? Are you prepared to publicly accuse the GG of being unfit for office?

A learned man writes an article about the safeguards our system can solve in the case of our quite common, ordinary, current political situation, and you decide that it's a opportunity to slander the highest officer in the land. A man who is far above any politician and who has done more for this country than all of the political class combined.

When can we expect your stunning expose of the truth about our Governor General?
