Doog,

Not good enough. It's one thing to express your dislike of, and opposition to, to Tony Abbott and anybody else you disagree with, including me. It's an entirely different matter to cast aspertions against the Governor General, who you nothing about, and who has publicly never done anything he could be censured for. To say he must be dubious just because he was appointed by Abbott is just as unfair and silly as saying the same thing about a Labor-appointed GG - Quentin Bryce, for example, or Bill Hayden, both Labor appointees and both good, upstanding Australians worthy of the position; the latter being one of the very few politicians who could be respected by all, irrespective of political predilictions. As far as I am uware, there has been only one GG thought publicly not to be up to mark, and he did the right thing and resigned, even though the reason would have had no bearing on his ability to do the job. You clearly cannot and will not answer my question, but your unwarranted are remarks very grubby indeed. Politicians continually show that they are not worthy of respect, but the same cannot be said of our head of state.

The GG doesn't have absolute power.

In theory he has more power than the PM.

In practice he has no power.

And, we've all seen the way our elected 'representatives' carry on. They represent themselves, not us; elected or not, they are actually dictators for 3 years. All we can do, is kick them out and elect another set of dictators for 3 years. The unelected GG and unchangeable legal backing for him or her, is our only protection against the political thugs. Why do you think these thugs want a republic?

What the Republicans have missed is if you elect a head of state
you get a politician.
The last person you want in that job is a politician.
