By Rod McGarvie, published 31/3/2016

With the recent Sudanese gang violence in Melbourne there is yet another clear indication that our immigration system needs a comprehensive review and resetting of priorities.

Banjo, where exactly have I condoned any of the actions you mention?
Do you make things up as you go along?
Do you condone violent actions of non-Muslim groups?

Suse,

You have supported moderate Muslims who are by definition and inclination followers of Muhammad, who preached and practiced violence; they are believers in the Koran therefore they believe in violence, the subjugation of women etc.

Dear Is Mise,

How can you tell that Muhammad preached and practiced violence?
Just because some violent Muslims wrote so in their books?
They only follow their imaginary Muhammad, not the real one!

Rod,
Congratulations. A very good article identifying certain specific problems in our immigration system. However it would be politically difficult to discriminate on nationality, despite the fact we are not obliged to take in anyone from any country. A possible solution would be for all potential immigrants to have a significant cash bond deposited with the Australian government for at least 15 years as surety against future criminal behaviour. For indigent refugees, this could be supplied by those prepared to be benefactors such as NGOs or other refugee sympathises. Asking the refugee lobby to put their money where their mouth is would make it more accountable and thus have the effect of calming down the division and bad blood in Australia over immigration
