'Do we value women's rights?'
Certainly the middle class feminist care by and large about themselves. Posted by runner, Thursday, 4 February 2016 11:17:34 AM

We? In our universities more women seem to graduate than men currently.
As for the population numbers there are more women than men and given that reality, have the majority vote? And therefore decide who governs? Moreover I believe male misogynists are today in the minority. I think that the real problem are women and the endless blame game that makes us blokes responsible for the so called glass ceiling and everything that's wrong with the world? Not enough seats on the board? Well given how much off our finances the ladies control, why not organise yourselves and launch a commercial boycott or two? And why not speak out at the ATM's? Or if your fund manager is indifferent, change your fund! Not enough female bishops? Same strategy. Empty churches are usually very poor churches, and given enough time the hierarchy will get the message? Politics? Organize and just put the male incumbent last regardless of political persuasion. And vote as a block when a women stands! Forget politics! I'm thoroughly fed up with this type of article and the very idea we can do something about another sovereign nation's attitude and actions? Why, we all of us stared in uncomprehending disbelief when a man who shot his girlfriend several times, with murderous intent through a bathroom door, claimed he could see well enough to see she was not in his bed, but saw well enough in the early morning light to find and lock and load a pistol? Perhaps he felt the pistol but couldn't use those basic senses to find a girl in the dark? And the Judge was a lady and a black south African? Which given the years of repression, by white males, her verdict simply beggars belief! I'm not sure a jury of white males would have swallowed all that BS? WE? who the hell are we? My two daughters? So Africa have a recipe for reducing the teaching standard.
When ever gender or ethnicity is used as a criteria in the selection of any work force, & in education in particular, the overall standard of the workforce drops dramatically. Just look at our own educational results. As we have increased the percentage of female teachers, particularly in primary schools, the standard of the three R's teaching has dropped dramatically. 40 years ago kids with intermediate certificate passes at 15 years of age, [junior high school] could easily handle the math required in an electrical apprentiship. Today kids with matriculation passes at 17 years of age, [senior high school], are requiring remedial math courses to be able to handle the same math. Perhaps our lady teachers are turning out "more rounded" little people, hell they might even be SNAGS. It is a pity that those rounded people are not educated to a reasonable standard. So it appears Africa will have more girls at school, AND a less well educated population, just like us. Posted by Hasbeen, Thursday, 4 February 2016 11:50:07 AM

No, we don't; if we did then Australia would do something about the appalling level of violence against women and girls in Indigenous communities.

Is Mise,
And, there would be many prosecutions of parents for FGM offences. Since FGM became illegal in Aus there has only been one prosecution and the penalties of the convicted has yet to be imposed. If governments were serious about FGM they would insist that medicos report instances and make hospital records available to police. But no, there are 'cultural considerations', so the horrible mutilation of little girls goes on, and on. Posted by Banjo, Thursday, 4 February 2016 4:03:08 PM

Malawi
http://smartraveller.gov.au/countries/malawi Astounded that Suse'DriveBy' and ors believe they would be better off there. Nothing for Australia to learn there. Posted by onthebeach, Thursday, 4 February 2016 4:03:26 PM

Is Mise, I agree with you about Indigenous women and girls.
They are by far the people with the least 'rights' of all in our country. I can't see any end to it in our lifetime though, as any attempt to address that problem would have to involve the women reporting the behavior of their male relatives, and I can't see that happening any time soon. Hasbeen proves the fact that men like him have no regard for women's rights by blaming female teachers for what he perceives as this country's education failure. I say it is the fault of poor government and education spending by the predominantly old white male parliamentarians... Posted by Suseonline, Thursday, 4 February 2016 9:59:24 PM

Hey Suse, please explain just how, recognising the incompetence of the modern female dominated education system, & the primary system in particular has anything to do with women's rights.
Oh I get it. You're suggesting it is a woman's right to be incompetent. To be employed in a job where her incompetence harms the education of children, must be another right. It must be their right to dumb down a whole generation, & expect to do even more with the current lot. These women's rights obviously must trump the right of the taxpayer to expect competence from it's employees, & the kids right to an adequate education. Hasbeen, your misogyny is obvious. You take every chance to have a go at females on this forum. You would prefer they were stuck in the kitchen, like back in the 'good ol' days', am I correct?
No one important has ever said it is female teachers fault that the education system is 'dumbed down', just you, who hasn't been involved in any education system for 80 years or so... Posted by Suseonline, Friday, 5 February 2016 8:52:33 AM

Is Mise,
Here is another instance where our politicians fail females. The head of the Immigrant Women's Health Service in Fairfield, Sydney (a government funded service) Doctor Eman Sharobeen, stated to the press that she knows of 60 underage marriages that occurred in the last 3 years. Our government does nothing about that. These are forced underage marriages. Posted by Banjo, Friday, 5 February 2016 9:25:22 AM

Other situations where our law fails women and Muslims show their contempt for our society.
In a report compiled by the Islamic Women's welfare Council of Victoria it is claimed that Imams perform polygamous marriages and underage marriages. The most concerning aspect of the report claims that some divorced husbands turn up at the former wives residence and demand sex and forcibly have it. They claim that Islam does not recognize our laws and they are still married. In our society this is termed rape. This report was presented to the Rudd Labor government but has been buried. Although it was commissioned by the government, it has never been tabled. Although the claims were alarming the report only got press on one day and nothing more has been heard of it. The Islamic Womens website was also shut down for over a week. Posted by Banjo, Friday, 5 February 2016 10:39:54 AM

So is it actually us who don't respect or value women's rights or is this idea so deeply rooted in the Muslim societies it's them who don't do this? If they themselves do not show any respect towards their women, forcing them into sex and so on - what could possibly be done by us?
