Women make up the majority of the poor, as much as 70 per cent in some countries.

Africa and "some"(other countries). Not our problem. Let's concentrate on our on country and our problems.

'Do we value women's rights?'

Certainly the middle class feminist care by and large about themselves.

We? In our universities more women seem to graduate than men currently.

As for the population numbers there are more women than men and given that reality, have the majority vote? And therefore decide who governs?

Moreover I believe male misogynists are today in the minority.

I think that the real problem are women and the endless blame game that makes us blokes responsible for the so called glass ceiling and everything that's wrong with the world?

Not enough seats on the board?

Well given how much off our finances the ladies control, why not organise yourselves and launch a commercial boycott or two? And why not speak out at the ATM's? Or if your fund manager is indifferent, change your fund!

Not enough female bishops? Same strategy. Empty churches are usually very poor churches, and given enough time the hierarchy will get the message?

Politics? Organize and just put the male incumbent last regardless of political persuasion.

And vote as a block when a women stands! Forget politics!

I'm thoroughly fed up with this type of article and the very idea we can do something about another sovereign nation's attitude and actions?

Why, we all of us stared in uncomprehending disbelief when a man who shot his girlfriend several times, with murderous intent through a bathroom door, claimed he could see well enough to see she was not in his bed, but saw well enough in the early morning light to find and lock and load a pistol? Perhaps he felt the pistol but couldn't use those basic senses to find a girl in the dark?

And the Judge was a lady and a black south African? Which given the years of repression, by white males, her verdict simply beggars belief!

I'm not sure a jury of white males would have swallowed all that BS?

WE? who the hell are we? My two daughters?

So Africa have a recipe for reducing the teaching standard.

When ever gender or ethnicity is used as a criteria in the selection of any work force, & in education in particular, the overall standard of the workforce drops dramatically.

Just look at our own educational results. As we have increased the percentage of female teachers, particularly in primary schools, the standard of the three R's teaching has dropped dramatically.

40 years ago kids with intermediate certificate passes at 15 years of age, [junior high school] could easily handle the math required in an electrical apprentiship.

Today kids with matriculation passes at 17 years of age, [senior high school], are requiring remedial math courses to be able to handle the same math.

Perhaps our lady teachers are turning out "more rounded" little people, hell they might even be SNAGS. It is a pity that those rounded people are not educated to a reasonable standard.

So it appears Africa will have more girls at school, AND a less well educated population, just like us.
