By Alexander Morgan, published 18/11/2015

It's not just about prize money. It's about endorsements. It's about media exposure. It's about body image.

Perhaps the author can outline how they are supporting the salaries of male cross country skier's. They earn a lot less then female tennis players. how should we address this serious level of sexism.

I think this is a shocking article - demeaning to we women who are the salt of the mine.

I mean. Take these images of Tatiana Grigorieva, famous Russo-Australian pole-volter:

1. draped in Aussie flag https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ5X_JC8nzW5wNeZIj6M3UYCbjFSmjqhYh_OAcUtUuIN_ASFWXoEQ

2. hair blowing in the wind http://www.saxton.com.au/images/stories/profiles/images-colour/Grigorieva_Tatiana.jpg

3. being payed big $$$ on the cover of a magazine http://www.theage.com.au/ffxImage/urlpicture_id_1069027156734_2003/11/19/T_7,0.jpg

Shocking! And to think I'm bi-feminist.

Well Jardine K. Jardine

Here is a better shot of my cousin Tatiana winning for Australia:

She made flag waving a national sport http://resources1.news.com.au/images/2012/04/25/1226336/909817-tatiana-grigorieva.jpg

Of me there are many shots. Here are two:

But being bi-feminist I may prefer beautiful woman :)

In the interests of true gender equality, we should make the women play with two extra balls per woman.

It would certainly liven up an otherwise dull game.

Natasha, I think you should draw your brother's attention to this clip of Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke's warm-up routine. I think he'll appreciate it. I certainly do ;)

I don't follow tennis at all but do have a strong impression that there are differences in the games played by the top male players and top female players.

A quick look at serve speed records as a start to one of the differences
Equal 29th fastest serve recorded by a male is Roger Federer at 230km/h https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastest_recorded_tennis_serves.

2nd fastest female serve Venus Williams at 209 km/h and Serena Williams at 207 km/h

Some other stats at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_tennis_match_records

None of that tells a complete story about how good the respective athletes are or how entertaining the matches are to watch but my impression is that whilst Serena might have won more titles competing against other women than Federer has playing against other men there are few who believe she would have won them if competing against the top male players.

I don't think the author is comparing apples with apples.
If equality is the issue then perhaps advocate for removal of the gender qualifiers in sport and let people compete on merit.
