Back ten centuries ago, the Pope decided that all the Muslims had to leave Jerusalem. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Muslim community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Muslim community. If the Muslim won the debate, all the Muslims could stay. If the Pope won, all the Muslims would have to leave.
The Muslims realised that they had no choice. They looked around for a champion who could defend their faith, but no one wanted to volunteer. It was too risky. But they finally picked their representative, an old Mullah who unknowingly agreed without knowing what he was getting himself into. He agreed only on the condition that neither side be allowed to talk but communicate by miming. The pope agreed.
The day of the great debate came. The Mullah and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. The Mullah looked back at him and raised his middle finger..
The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Mullah Nasruddin pointed to the ground and stamped his foot.
The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Mullah pulled out an apple. The Pope stood up and said, 'I give up. This man is too good. The Muslims can stay.

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said: "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and stamping on it, showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple, reminding me of the first sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"
Meanwhile, the Muslim community had crowded around the Mullah in total astonishment. "What happened?" they asked. "Well,"said the Mullah, "First he said to me that we Muslims had three days to leave Jerusalem. I told him up yours. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Muslims. I said none of us leaving this land!"
"And then?' asked a woman."
"He took out his lunch and I took out mine," said the Mullah.

A few years back when Jimeon had his show on TV he did this skit about how to make home made goods.

All he did was take the labels off and put a piece of checkered cloth around the top with a rubber band.

He went through with jam, and pickles and all kinds of things until he picked up a picture of Yasser Arafat and said - "He's homemade".

So the muslim jokes have been around for a while.

Another joke by Muslims,

In the Egyptian army, an army general known for his tough military attitude was leading the Friday prayer. After he started praying and coming to the part where followers should say "amen". (Amen should be said in a quite peaceful manner).
He stopped the prayer and turned around facing the muslim soldiers saying:
"As you were! No soft Amen allowed here, I want a loud enough Amen to bring the mosque down on our heads!".

I think so far most jokes here are from muslims 'who don't have a sense of fun' according to Jan Martel!.

Regards

I agree Muslims all over the world whereever they are living should integrate with the respective societies. If they think that they cannot (for what ever reasons), they must ensure that they do not cause any problems for the people of other societies.

However, i believe that a persons religion may be a sensitive matter for him/her and if they cannot take a joke, let not turn that into a BIG JOKE!! After all we live in a free society and we have to care about every ones rights.

I believe that the person who commented in the rape case, then he should be ashamed for himself. Rape is considered to be one of the biggest sins in Islam with a very high degree of punishment.
The perso making the statement should not be givig such excuse for it..A rape is a rape, you just cannot make any excuses and the victim must be provded full justice and the committer of the act punished asap.

There are good and bad people in every religion and to generalise an opinion about a specific religion based on a sample of bad people from that religion to the extent of criticising or misqouting the Prophet(s) of that religion must be avoided.

As far as terrorism is concerned, the terrorists (irrespective of their religion) should be dealt with full justice. I strongly condemn terrorism.

Unfortunately, a certain class (i believe) of Muslims (and those claiming to be Muslims) have misinterpreted the true teachings of Islam and hence the prevailing image of Islam.

I believe that the people of Australia are one of the friendliest people in this world (i mean it).

If the Muslims etc as seen on tv are not wanting to be part of the Australian society, they should/must leave this country rather than making life embarrassing for the other Muslims trying to integrate with other societies.

By writing this, i am only trying to create a friendly relation between people of all religions and to sort out the differences, after all we are human beings first and then anything else.

John Smith – I would agree with much of the sentiment of your post.

However, religion can be a sensitive matter for many – jokes about it might offend. However, part of the Western and Australian way is to make jokes at the expense of all and every religion, social group etc. I recall the late departed Dave Allan and his incisive stabs at Catholicism with hysteria. I myself, being a “pome”, have been on the receiving end of many a comment – my only response – to give back as good as I have received and left smiling with my adversary.

Thus, Muslims and anyone else needs to understand – if someone wants to migrate and live in Australia, part of the price they pay for migrating is to assimilate by observing and adopting Australian ways and manners.

I have observed, being the butt of a joke is part of that way and manner – no sacred cows, no taboos. Everything is up for a laugh and damn us all if we let the politically correct tell us what we can or cannot laugh at.

That also means that Solomon Rushdie is free to write whatever he wants about anything and worthy of our defence against any fatwa just as writers of books which criticise roman Catholicism are rightly free and worthy of defence from the Office of the Inquisition.
