Australia - like all countries in the United Nations - pursue policies that affect the interests of countries beyond their own borders.

The Labor policy -supposedly as espoused by Carr - denies Jews the legal right to live in the West Bank.

When and if this in fact is Labor policy remains a mystery - as I explain in my article.

Rudd and the Labor Party are presently doing a delicate balancing act in refusing to confirm this is Labor party policy and The Prime Minister's personal opinion.

A one sentence press release could easily clear up the confusion.

Why the delay?

To #Rhys Jones

Unlike Australia - the last sovereign occupier of the West Bank was Great Britain between 1920- 1948.

The West Bank has been no-man's land since then and sovereignty to it is disputed by both Jews and Arabs.

You repeat the claim of # one under god in proclaiming:

"I am sure that the Palestinians would not object to Jews wishing to live in the West Bank if they wished to live there as Palestinian citizens though. Particularly if it resulted in an end to the military occupation of their country "

I can only repeat what Mahmoud Abbas said on 30 July:

"“In a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli — civilian or soldier — on our lands,”

When you make statements be prepared to back them up.

When Abbas makes a statement along the lines you seem so sure of - drop me a line.

You are spot on. The Labor Party is desperate for the Moslem vote in tightly held marginal seats where large Moslem populations reside - and where that vote is not necessarily assured because of the Rudd Government policy that would see future Moslem asylum seekers landing in Australia denied the right to live in Australia.

Trying to get that vote back by suggesting the Labor party has a policy that denies Jews the right to live in the West Bank has been obviously thought out as a clever way to win over the Moslem vote in those marginal seats.

Whilst Labor remains silent on whether that is indeed the policy of the Labor party and Rudd - as foisted on it by Carr at the Lakemba Mosque - the Moslem vote will certainly not be forthcoming.

Rudd has to confirm or deny it is Labor Party policy, when that policy was formulated and when it was adopted.

Is it really that hard for Prime Minister Rudd to tell us when this unequivocal and unapologetic policy was adopted by Mr Rudd himself and the Labor Party?

End the confusion - and end it quickly

David singer, you quote Mahmoud Abbas saying “In a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli — civilian or soldier — on our lands,”
This is not at all the same as saying "no Jews allowed to live in the West Bank" as you continue to claim in your usual deceitful manner.
The vast majority of Jews in the World are not Israelis. Whether soldiers or civilians.

David, Prompete, just one quick point.
Most "Muslims" in this country, especially Lebanese absolutely hate "Asylum Seekers", the Pacific solution is popular among Muslims and Immigrants generally. Apart from Asylum Seekers themselves I've never seen any number Muslims, long term citizens or Australian born at pro refugee rallies. Muslims don't vote as a bloc, there are leftists, liberals, conservatives and centrists among them, we can assume that Jews can think for themselves as well and that there are the same political debates happening at their dinner tables as in anyone else's house.
My father has been a lifelong radical Leftist,so is my sister, my mother is more of a Left/Liberal and I'm a White Nationalist, there's no way of telling what goes on in a typical family much less a whole ethnic group and it's debatable how far "pandering" or tailoring a message to a particular group really goes toward winning seats.

' denies Jews the legal right to live in the West Bank'

How does that even work in practice? How does any ALP policy directly deny the rights of Jews in Israel? How will their policy be effective? If Jews want the right to live in the West Bank, how will the ALP deny them that right? Emotive hyperbole.

It seems about as likely as Australia influencing gun laws in the US.

'Rudd and the Labor Party are presently doing a delicate balancing act in refusing to confirm this is Labor party policy and The Prime Minister's personal opinion.

A one sentence press release could easily clear up the confusion.'

Must be more nut cases in marginal seats than I thought, as Prompete suggests. Then again governments usually stay clear of these kind of topics in an election campaign.

Personally I am unimpressed when any government bothers to define it's position on such things (I mean why would you care what the PMs personal opinion is, so you can label him antisemitic?) as a conduit for the petty rivalries of ethnic and religious minorities.

BTW: I come from a pretty neutral perspective. I also deplored the NSW Greens ridiculous sanctions. Then again I was also incensed at the even more ridiculous attempt to construct an Eruv in St Ives by using dummy power poles.

It is not their biblical homeland, the bible is not a real story, it is a series of myths and parables written who knows when and by whom.

To claim that only jews can live there is beyond deranged.
