By Lyn Bender, published 11/6/2013There they are on the Bridging Visa to nowhere, waiting for nothing, as nothing continues on. Like an unending scene in Samuel Becket's absurdist play, Waiting for Godot.

I understand your feelings very well.
My parents also knew what a knock
on the door meant. I was born in
Australia, however I still remember
our next door neighbour coming and
telling my mother that he would call
the police if she could not control my
little brother. Apparently he'd had a fight
with the neighbour's little boy (who as it
turned out started the fight).
Mum very
calmly told the neighbour that she
believed in not interfering in children's
fights. Because they resolved their own
fights very quickly while adults stayed angry
over them. Mum also said that after having
been interrogated by the Soviet secret police she wasn't
frightened of any threat he could come up with.
She politely bade him "Good Afternoon," and
closed the door.
