By Antoun Issa, published 31/1/2011

The PA hoped to wound its enemies by cutting deals with Israel, but have ended-up looking weak and supine itself.

There is a strong possibility that whatever has happened in the past, negotiations, tentative agreements etc., will all become of little interest to the Palestinian people if the anticipated Egyptian changes which followed the Tunisian actions develop enough fervour to culminate in real elections and the appointment of a leadership truly representing the people and their ambitions, the elimination of the evil occupier, Israel, the most disliked state in the world.

This is likely to happen as a pride in purpose develops and they can see and end to the apartheid state and ethnic cleansing. The world, with the exception of Israel and the US, both with vested interest otherwise, will support a rise to democracy in so many states and countries as an opportunity to progress the people into the 21st Century becomes evident with the help of developed states such as Iran.

This could be the beginning of a new era for progress, with or without the Zionists

Rhys says:

//the elimination of the evil occupier, Israel, the most disliked state in the world.//

Hmmmm.... did you just finish reading Volume II of Mein Kampf Rhys?

"evil occupier" eh ?

How about another view. "Rightful owners of historic indigenous land, forced into exile by the Romans, their land further pillaged and populated by invading Muslims, finally RIGHTED a long festering historic WRONG.. by the same means it was originally taken from them"

i.e......FORCE.

Did I forget "God given land"?

You might want to re-think your history Rhys.

A bit more.

From the article:

//Much has already been made in the international media of the extremely generous Palestinian offer to Israel to annex the majority of Jewish settlements - deemed illegal under international law - in East Jerusalem.//

I can tell you all now, with absolute assurance.. the Israeli's have the following goals.

1/ Complete takeover and de/repopulation of the whole of Jerusalem
2/ Complete takeover and repopulation (displacing Palestinians) of the whole West bank.

Doubt me ? :) watch, as history unfolds.

ALGOREisRICH states:
“I can tell you all now, with absolute assurance.. the Israeli's have the following goals.
1/ Complete takeover and de/repopulation of the whole of Jerusalem
2/ Complete takeover and repopulation (displacing Palestinians) of the whole West bank.
Doubt me ? :) watch, as history unfolds.”

It has been quite clear during protracted negotiations during recent decades that these are the real Israeli goals and it is useful that ALGOREisRICH makes this clear and thereby demonstrates that the Israelis have not been negotiating in good faith. They want an apartheid state based on a false claim that the whole of Palestine was originally theirs a few thousand years ago and they cannot be trusted to negotiate with any honesty or morality, despite what the rest of the world thinks.

The achievement of these goals would create an illegal State based on the idea of racial superiority. The pursuit of these goals will create continuing serious problems for the world, and will ensure that the State will never have peace and security.

Israel has made sure that a two state solution is now unlikely and a one state solution cannot exist on apartheid principles. They are going to have to accept the idea that they are not a superior race and will have to share the land with non-Jews if they ever want peace, security and respect.

For Stan1

"They are going to have to accept the idea that they are not a superior race and will have to share the land with non-Jews if they ever want peace, security and respect".

Yes, I agree with peace and security but not respect. They will never regain that for what they have done since 1948. The world overcame Nazism, the world overcame Apartheid in Africa and the world will overcome Zionism in all its evil forms.

But respect, unlikely.

Sorry, this is a bit off topic. Was anyone else getting the Scientology advertisements for the CCHR in the article? This is a worrying direction for OO.

Back on topic, thanks for the article. The leaked papers certainly don't show anyone involved in the negotiations in a good light. It is sad too think that after 20 years any two state peace agreement seems further away than ever.

However perhaps a one state solution is a step closer. This has always seemed a more just outcome.

Has it ever occurred to Rhys Stanley that with its vast resources the Arab world could easily absorb the Palestinian refugees? Further has he ever considered why the refugees have been left in camps: quite unlike his much despised Israelis, who on a tiny sliver of land bereft of oil riches, have absorbed several million new settlers since 1948 including refugees from once flourishing Jewish enclaves in Arab lands.

Yes, that was noted by many in Academia as with the Israeli propaganda advertisements as well.

In relation to the article, the US involvement for devious reasons as we all know, brought to mind the comment by Albert Einstein......

'The definition of insanity is when someone keeps doing the same thing while expecting different results'.

And so it has been for twenty odd years with the Americans going through their paces, mind games with the Palestine leaderships, inadequate as they have been and calling it The Peace Process, now as we all know the instrument of deception and lies for which Presidents from Kennedy, (Laos, Cambodia) Johnson (USS LIberty, Vietnam) and Nixon and all since those days, having been responsible for countless deaths. That plus 60 years if ethnic cleansing by Israel with the imprimatur of the US make the climate for the poorly named 'Peace Process'. Never again.

Both just do not give a damn.

You just cannot ever believe them and Obama, Mr. false Rhetoric being a latter day Quisling, harking back to the days of Nazi Germany.

Sadly, the country that has come out of all these disclosures the worst is the US, honesty not being part of their make up.....ever. Anyone who trusts them again deserves what they will get.

Times are a'changing, though

Dear Antoun

You say

"Much has already been made in the international media of the extremely generous Palestinian offer to Israel to annex the majority of Jewish settlements."

What you omitted to mention is that Israel has agreed to give up an equivalent area of land in Israel to the new Palestinian state in return.

It seems that the leaks have highlighted what most of us already suspected - the Israelis do not want to negotiate, only buy time for further settlement expansion, and the PA who are weak and willing to trade anything to avoid losing further ground to Hamas.

I believe that Israel is fighting a losing battle however, their position (and especially these leaks) will further weaken PA and Israel will find themselves having only a hostile Hamas to negotiate with. Given enough time, Israelis will settle all of the prime land leaving the Palestinians to begin to favor a one-state solution, which will be the downfall of all Israel stands for.

AlGore -

"God-given land?"
Says who? The authors of a document awarding themselves something just because they can?

There is no historical basis for the assertion of ancient occupation and much evidence to the contrary.

You talk about history yet you present myth as some sort of fact.

It seems to me that Israel has always been totally opposed to any sort of peace settlement, despite any concessions made by the other side. It's always been all-or-nothing and now the world knows it too.
