I perceive that statement as a “muddying of the waters” Woulfe since I understood that the Hungarian authorities took legal action against Zentai after the war, with allegations that he'd captured Mr Balazs and assaulted him over a number of hours before dumping his body in the Danube River.

Hungary sought to arrest Zentai in 1948 but by then, he’d already fled Hungary and was living in the American zone of occupied Germany as alluded to by the author.

In March 2005, a Hungarian military tribunal issued an international warrant for the arrest of Zentai, the first step in the process which led to a request for his extradition from Australia. Shortly after, the then Australian attorney-general Philip Ruddock saw fit to issue a warrant for his arrest and determined he be extradited.

Australia has an extradition agreement with Hungary, however, the extradition clauses preventing extradition appear to be so numerous (at least to a layperson)I doubt its effectiveness.

It appears there is no longer a domestic legal framework in Australia (or the will) to conduct fair trials for alleged Nazi criminals and it’s evident that Mr Zentai is reluctant to clear his name by merely being questioned by the Hungarian authorities. He will remain a suspect, in the eyes of many.

It wasn’t only the Nazis that hated the Jews; just about all of Europe hated Jews and were key participants in the demise of Jews.

There is a very long history of Jewish vilification in Europe, in the UK for instance, King Edward 1st in 1274 on his return to England from the Crusades was dismayed to find that many of his subjects had defaulted on excessive mortgage repayments and were being dispossessed by Jewish money lenders and left in destitution. From the UK they went to France and after 100 years of the same practices were expelled in 1391. From France they went to Austria and after 30 years were again expelled in 1421. From Austria they went to Spain and Portugal and after 70 years were again expelled in 1492. They were not welcome in all of Europe and with nowhere to go after their expulsion from Spain and Portugal their situation had become critical. Surprisingly or more likely dismissed by many Islamaphobic provocateurs, Emperor Bayezid II of the Islamic Ottoman Empire came to the rescue of these European descendents of Jews and sent ships for transport to and resettlement in Palestine where they lived peacefully with the indigenous Arabs and Jews.

During WW2, on many occasions the German Army would simply corral the local Police in isolation of their citizens in the towns/villages of occupied Europe.
