Malcolm Turnbull makes an extraordinary claim that Liberal Party dumped him 'because they were worried he'd WIN the election'

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has spoken about the 'madness' of the Liberal party coup that saw him ousted from the office.

In his only interview, with BBC Two while in the United Kingdom, Mr Turnbull said he was voted out by his party because they felt he would win the next election.

He said polls at the time had demonstrated the party was in a 'winnable' position leading into the 2019 election.

However internal politics of the party coupled with 'voices in the media' whipping up and 'amplifying' the issue hastened his exit.

'You could argue that their concern was not that I would lose the election but rather that I would win it. Because there is no question the government's position is much less favourable [now] than it was back in August,' Mr Turnbull said.

'So the bottom line is normally... when you replace a leader you replace the unpopular person whose fate is sealed with somebody who is much more popular and gives you a chance of winning.'

Mr Turnbull said while he had lost more than 40 polls in a row to the Labor Party the Liberal Party had crawled back to a level playing field, particularly in marginal seats.

'We had essentially drawn equal, even, and in our own polling in the marginal seats which is obviously the only ones that matter in terms of determining government, we were ahead,' Mr Turnbull said.

Mr Turnbull kept referring back to recent polls showing the Liberal Party was not in as good of a position as it was prior to the 'coup' and agreed Australia had made a habit out of ousting sitting Prime Ministers.

'So it was a peculiarly Australian form of madness I'm afraid,' he said.

Can't we just keep these proven failures out of the lime light & focus on important issues ?
They were replaced because they are out of touch with reality, simple !

Malcolm was a globalist who would sell out Australia's interests. Everyone knew he better belonged to the socialist Labour party. He may as won (I doubt it) but the country is better off without him in politics. He has turned quite bitter along with the Turnbullites like Bishop, Banks and even Pyne who somewhat share his globalist views.

runner,
Don't blame Malcolm for everything. After all, it's everyday Australians who are perpetually demanding more for less.

individual, Quote "it's everyday Australians who are perpetually demanding more for less."

I believe the reason for that can be blamed on the politicians and other government officials who live the high life and try to scam more so ordinary people think anything they can get is fair game.

Philip S,
That's why I am advocating a reduction of those high salaries in the Public sector ! Or haven't you noticed that yet. Btw. no-one appears to be interested in curbing the excesses, I wonder why ?
