By Murray Goot, published 9/10/2007

What do Australians think of the US or of President George W. Bush? And how many support the US-Australia alliance?

I have no problem with George Bush.
God appoints leaders.
If He doesnt like them He gets rid of them. Not always is this overnight. Idi Amin seemed to linger forever as does Robert Mugarbe. Yet Mugabe's time will come. All the bad boys go.
If they start off well and go off, they are soon torn down.
Same as civilisations. Where now the Romans, Celts, Greeks, Mayan? All went off and were torn down or displaced by Christianity. We shouldnt judge the Holy Bible says...as in cursing leaders with our mouths or hearts. God is the Judge. Even if you dont believe in God and His Saviour Jesus Christ...its not wise to judge established leaders. Watching your tongue is simply wisdom...

John Winston Howard declared that GEORGE W. Bush was an intelligent and likeable man said ahead of the US President's arrival in Australia recently.

This pathetic declaration made anyone with an intellect cringe.

Howard may well have been better off politically to declare admiration for Tony Blair. But he knew this would have been antithetical to his declaration of being the most conservative PM ever.
Murray Goot is right, you are the friends you publicly declare to love and GWB is that ‘dead skunk in the middle of the road’ in just about every urban electorate here in OZ. (and especially the seat of Bennelong)

You got yer
Dead Bush in the middle of the Moreton road
Dead Bush in the middle of the Bennelong road
You got yer dead Bush in the middle of a Eden Monaro road
Stinkin' to high Heaven!

Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose!
Roll up yer window and hold yer nose
You don't have to look and you don't have to see
'Cause you can feel it in your olfactory
(apologies to Loudon Wainwright)

Anyone who saw the Daily Show today... 9/10.. and the treatment Bush got.. would still be rolling around laughing.

Daily outlined how a tax on cigarettes of 61c per pack would be used to fund health care for poor kids... and Mr Bush veto'd it... with the statment "I'm all for privatized health care.. the government shouldn't be doing that"...kind of stuff.

He sure didn't score any points with me on that one.

But the tax on cigaretttes ? :) welllll..John Stewart, the host of the show pointed out that if Cigarettes were too expensive..no one would buy them... gurgle gurgle goes the HEALTH care... solution ? Aah.. poor kids take up smoking......and fund their OWN health care..though the tax.

And whats more. George Bush is holding radical Islam at bay and stopping both Russia and China from engaging their great outward marches. Praise The Lord for a good man in Geogre Bush!

We either go with the yanks or spend billions on nuclear weapons to protect our independance. What is the price of freedom and democracy?Putin has an 80% approval rating because his police state has brought order to a chaotic Russian State. Will they and the Chinese take the next step towards democracy?I think not. These two totalitarian regimes have an advantage over the West because the slow wheels of democracy make us slow to react to facist aggressive regimes. The Muslims are well aware of this also.

If the West and the US goes under, then the World is headed for a new dark age, whereby freedom of thought will be a distant memory.I don't think that the West realises the consequences of what they are about to lose.

The guy who believes in prophecies, demons and flying saucers likes George Bush. Why am I not surprised...

And Gibo - you say that god removes the bad dictators, even though Idi Amin has been there a long time...

The thing is, eventually god would also remove the good ones. And the indifferent ones. And the ones with dogs. And the ones who like crossword puzzles...

Regrettably, your argument that god can just pick the leaders, essentially means we should just put up with whoever's in charge.

And people wonder why religion is often used as a tool to manipulate...
