Two more books, on an important union, and on climate change : Comments

By Don Aitkin, published 8/12/2016

This essay is a discussion about two books, widely different in their story. Each was given to me by its author, a friend.

#1/ Increased plant yields And a greening planet due to increased Co2 levels, is exactly what the GREENHOUSE EFFECT is!

#2/ A solar nuclear thermal furnace in a waning (cooling) phase since the mid seventies. (NASA) doesn't produce a warmer planet, nor year on year, record upon record, average ambient temperatures!

Read more (paleontology section) books Don, particularly what the paleontology record tells what occurred around 90 millions years ago, with consequential increased Co2 levels/higher average ambient 2C.

Enough to start melting the permafrost/tundra, allowing formerly frozen methane to melt adding millions of tons to the atmosphere.

Thereby adding 3C to ambient temperatures, increased total, 5C.

According to paleontological record, enough to nearly destroy all life on planet earth?

The UK i.e., was a windswept salt laden desert, regularly swept by winds exceeding 300 kilometres PH. And where no plant life flourished?

Without which herbivores did perish and indeed the carnivores who predated them?

Moreover, current Co2 levels are reportedly, in uncharted territory?

How many more enduring droughts and record breaking heat waves, must there be, with four farmers per day suiciding at the height of our last one? Before coal funded academics grow a social conscience?

Dealing with man made climate change is just not difficult! Virtual child's play in fact!

And can be done in ways that literally forces the economy to grow quite massively! Allowing cheaper than coal thorium energy, to be applied to new, four times cheaper, deionization desalination innovation and consequent commercially viable irrigation, that makes deserts bloom and become the productive gardens of eden they could be!

Thereby allowing those embracing innovation, to be heading the queue, when the new food boom, creates massive new wealth for those positioned to take advantage! A drought proofed Australia!?

Eminently doable! All that's missing is Leadership, a different/sane policy paradigm and academics not in permenant denial!?

An elegant read, as usual, Don.
Full marks it someone who identifies the books as having been written by friends.

The ethical standards in the daily newspapers don't offer much in the way of honesty. Everyone and their dog is flogging the last book/ new book/ forthcoming book.

' How many more enduring droughts and record breaking heat waves, must there be, with four farmers per day suiciding at the height of our last one? Before coal funded academics grow a social conscience?'

how many more idiotic conclusions can those prescribing to the warming religion come up with. Yeah if we don't groom kids with ' safe' schools kids will commit suicide, if we don't legislate euthenasia people will kill themselves, if we don't approve ' gay' marriage people will kill themselves, if Trump wins we will all move to Canada

thankfully any thinking person can see through this nonsense. Just maybe the price hikes and financial stress caused by the alarmist/renewable charlatons could contribute more to people toppoing themselves. Just maybe the confused messages being sent to kids by insecure adults might be contributing to suicide.

I am so glad my father in law who farmed virgin land, brought up kids in harsh times did not having idiots planting such nonsense in his head every time their was a drought or flood of which their has always been many of in this country.

Runner: Pray tell, WTF has safe schools to do with grooming kids?

And what of any of the aforementioned, got to do with man made climate change?

WTF is wrong with you?

Forgot to take the meds again did we?

for Alan B.,

My understanding is that carbon dioxide increases follow temperature increases, according to Vostok ice cores. I think that the last million years is a more useful time period than much earlier eras, if only because the data are so spotty and so varied the earlier we go.

For Professor Don Akin; I have to admit to being an avid lapsed book lover, and quite regularly consumed two volumes a day, replete with comprehensive understanding.

Even so I managed to mangle a few words, like placebo, which I managed to amuse a few fellow medical students, by pronouncing it as place bo, rather than the correct plas see bo. And for me reading was literally my sanity saving escape from my then current reality!

My understanding of a solar thermal furnace in waning phase? Normally accompanied by a mini ice age?

And this particular phase, now seems to be at the bottom of a short cycle, given the current diminution of (spotty) sunspot solar activity? Are you able to spot the difference?

Perhaps you could also explain why close near solar neighbor Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system?

Why there seems to be no summer ice, for the first time in living memory, off the Alaskan coast, and why are there hundreds of brand spanking new summer lakes belching methane, where there was once permanently frozen permafrost or tundra!?

If the reputable promulgated science conflicts with your published view, you can always run true to form and just dismiss it, explaining as you do so, that the information was spotty or just "too old" to be relevant!

Latter day Professors majoring in hard won paleontology, turning in their graves!

All that aside, what is your principle problem with accepting change away from old King coal, that comes with a truly massive economic upside? And just on an undismissable irrefutable economic rationale?

An economic conflict of interest perhaps? Squim, wriggle, spin as you will? Just don't expect respect!
