Two more books, on an important union, and on climate change : Comments

By Don Aitkin, published 8/12/2016

This essay is a discussion about two books, widely different in their story. Each was given to me by its author, a friend.

runner - I liked the statistic about four farmers a day suiciding at the height of the last drought. If you're going to make up a figure don't do it by halves..

In any case, droughts and floods are governed by cycles that are not really connected with greenhouse theory - or at least scientists don't seem to know how they are connected - such as PDO, ENSO, and the SAO?? (not sure of the names, now).. in WA its the Indian dipole. Then there are minor cycles.. on the east cost there is a distinct, irregular cycle keyed to stuff that happens in Bass Strait.. I'd leave droughts out of it..

just sick of many lefties (secularist) using the pathetic excuse that if you don't agree with me people will commit suicide. The stark reality is that many of the leftie dogmas has contributed far more to suicide than conservatives hurting the very fragile feelings of the lefties. Suicide is tragic just like aboriginal dysfunction. The reality is that lefites have contributed more to both than any other cause I can think of.

Once again Runner displays his biassed fascist-tainted ignorance.

The main causes of suicide are -
Mental illness
Traumatic experience
Bullying
Personality Disorders
Substance Abuse/Addiction
Eating Disorders
Unemployment
Social Isolation
Relationship problems
Genetics
Philosophical desire/existentialist crisis
Terminal illness
Chronic Pain
Financial problems

Historically the numbers of suicides seems to increase when there is a conservative government in power because they typically cut support funding for assistance and create additional financial stress in society.
As far as youth suicide rates go, some of the items above also relate to religiously-based bullying, discrimination and sexual abuse.

For someone who pretends to be devoutly religious he's supremely judgemental, intolerant and driven by a hate fuelled from a distorted view of the real world and never displays any genuine compassion.

When you're just a hammer, everthing else looks like a nail.

your distortions show exactly why the most common causes of suicide will never be addressed by leftist dogma. Keep up the mantra and watch suicide rates increase.

You denialist's are unreal! "False. There has not been a linear relationship between carbon dioxide and temperature levels since 1860, as there have been 70 years of pauses in slightly over 150 years. Therefore, there is not a linear relationship at all." D'uh! The climatologists KNOW about various 'pauses' and what caused them! (Global dimming anyone?) Instead of reading retarded dogmatic anti-science denialists, did your for ONE MOMENT consider contacting, I don't know, say, an ACTUAL CLIMATOLOGIST? No? Prefer the echo-chamber much?

So much for academia. We really do live in a post-truth world where even 'academics' such as this author prefer echo-chambers, and sheer arrogance and pomposity apparently empowers them to diss an entire scientific discipline from third-hand information! Good job. If this were a high school science project, it would probably be failed just on the lack of credible bibliography, so say nothing of due diligence in research!
