My Partner and I moved out of a place because we had suffered the following hardships:

- physically threatened in own home
- lack of security and security enforcement
- sleep deprivation (due to housemates watching tv very loudly in the room next to ours)
- food stolen
- extremely filty kitchen.
- absence of kitchen utensils such as forks
- lack of security
- unreliable internet

We were forced to go to the tribunal because our ex-landlady was making unreasonable demands on our money. Clearly, this was someone who believed that even if tenants are forced to move out due to harsh circumstances, they should still fully compensate her for her losses. Never mind the tenant’s losses. It’s all about her.

We were also forced to endure a compulsory conciliation, which resulted in my partner taking an abusive phone call from our ex-landlady.
At the hearing, we were denied natural justice, one of the pillars of the Western legal system. And, in spite of the fact that none of our factual allegations were directly contradicted, the Mr Randall of the Small Claims Tribunal still found that we had exaggerated, and awarded most of our bond to our ex-landlady.
