Has there actually been a power outage?
Or have you been hoaxed? I know someone who was an internal auditor in a particular corporation and discovered that employees clocked work-time and were actually paid for working on April 31st (also for working 26 hours on a particular date). but then they are bureaucrats.
Hasbeen, yep, it's all the Govts' fault ! Or so they'll try & tell us as per usual. Just wait for Paul1405 to defend them. Posted by Indyvidual, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 1:13:51 AM

Energex is corporatized, so on what basis do you classify its workers as bureaucrats?
I'm quite surprised the government printer was involved, but that's still only a chain of two people: 1 at Energex who typed "November" instead of "October" when he or she produced the notice, and one at the printer who failed to spot the error. Posted by Aidan, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 1:35:00 AM

Aidan, Show me one (1) just one Energex worker that makes a corporate decision ! The maintenance crews are all doing a great job ! Same goes for all outfits. Corporate they may be but they're still of bureaucratic mentality ! Posted by Indyvidual, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 6:37:20 AM

Hi ho Hassy,
My notice from Energex is 8am to 4pm (8 hours) Tuesday 25th October. "This interruption is necessary to allow maintenance of the electricity network" so they tell me. Funny my notice came with a lot less than a months notice, it came during the 2 weeks I was in NZ, sure its not 31st October? All I can suggest for an old timer like you is keep opening your freezer every 5 minutes to check if its keeping things frozen. Boil the electric jug to see how long it takes, and keep switching on and off the light every 2 minutes to see if the powers back on. I hope your gas stove keeps working during all this drama. If your watch is working there must be some power in the house. Ho-hum a cold shower is recommended. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 5:10:43 PM

Speaking of notices,
our local council used to have a sign on the car park to the effect that only vehicles 6 metres in length were permitted to park, it became such a joke that they eventually removed it. All the branches of the Commonwealth Bank that I’ve been into lately have signs on the clear plastic screens telling customers to stay behind the screens, the customers are in front of the screens and the tellers are behind the screens in the locked security areas. Someone authorized the printing of thousands of these signs. Posted by Is Mise, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 7:29:49 PM

Just thought of another one.
We are probably all familiar (at least in NSW)with the road signs that state “Parts of (town) have 50kph streets”. When originally issued and erected they read “Parts of - - -have 50 km streets”. Wags were ringing local councils and asking it this referred to length or width. These were not cheap signs but professional RTA NSW reflective signs. Thanks for your thoughtful advice Paul. I suggest you follow it, I'll just fire up the 10KVA gen set for a couple of hours in the suggested middle of the outage, to protect our food.

Dear Hasbeen,
How's it going old cock? Good? So someone makes a minor blue on a letter going out to a few dozen people at the most and you think that is enough for you to "despise them"? Why such spiteful language? Have you ever stuffed up on your job before? I think on the main our government workers do a pretty good job in this country and have to put up with far more crap from people like you than they need to. Most people would just have a quite chuckle but it is somehow a hanging offence. Take a chill pill old boy. Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 9:59:46 PM

"I think on the main our government workers do a pretty good job in this country and have to put up with far more crap from people like you than they need to."
I went to pay my rego yesterday, had to wait in a queue for an hour and a half just to get served. There was only 3 people manning the 12 available counters. - Almost as bad as Woolies, 20 checkouts and only 2 checkouts and the express lane open. They have these portable fold out tables there so you can't get too close to the counter, you have to lean and reach over just to put things on the counter. I said Covid restrictions have now ended, why is all this stuff still here? Smug answer - "Well we have a lot of people come in here". (Basically saying the restrictions don't matter and that her heath is more important regardless of the governments restrictions) If they have so many people (as she herself stated) then why don't they put more staff on? - Mind you they still have a security guard, a greeter and a person to issue you your queue ticket. The reason why this country is stuffed is because they hire 6 people to do the job of 3. - This type of crap seems to be the norm lately, but what do you do? They say unemployment is around 4% Take all these stupid woke kids out of their taxpayer funded University holiday for gender studies, as well as all the extra unneeded staff they hire so they can all do half the actual amount of work and the true unemployment rate would probably be closer to 10% Incompetence has been fully integrated by these lot. I'm surprised they are giving you 6 weeks notice Hassy, sure its not October 31st, that would put it inline with my notice time about 4 weeks. Is your notice an orange card "Power Outage" in capitals on the front, with the Eergex symbol in the bottom right corner, I bet it is.

Yes that's the one Paul. You would think that when they go to the trouble of printing such a pretentious notification, they would bother to make sure it was correct before printing. Well you would if it wasn't a government entity doing it. After all, we couldn't expect our over paid bureaucrats to get something right now could we.
Incidentally do be careful of the hospital up your way, it appears the government health system is about as competent as Energex, with Caboolture being a leading light. Posted by Hasbeen, Wednesday, 19 October 2022 1:13:09 PM

Hasbeen complaint about the bureaucrats is quite valid.
Note the flutters that do not like their employer being called the BOM. So they spent $220,000 on "Professional Communicator Consultants" to tell them how to correct our bad ways. Oh Dear Oh Dear, now they want to be referred to as Bureau Persons ! Can you stand it ? Posted by Bazz, Saturday, 22 October 2022 3:38:47 PM

Trouble is the advice tells me it will be on Monday the 31St of November. As most here will realise we don't get 31 days in November, pity our bureaucrats are not aware of this.
Surely someone in the chain that produced this leaflet, from the idiot who wrote to the government printer who produced it, should have known this, but then they are bureaucrats.
