Once again you are trying to muddy the waters with tons of irrelevant waffle. I am sure that Essendon did a far more thorough review of Thorburn than your 5-minute google search.
Your timeline is also wrong. Thorburn had already been appointed by Essendon with a signed contract that did not exclude him from working with the church. The issue only arose when some snowflake dredged up some posts from church members from over a decade ago long before Thorburn even joined the church.
Contractually Essendon had no right to demand that he relinquish his position at the church, and in forcing him to resign they put themselves in a very dangerous legal position. Not only have they made their names mud, but if Thorburn decides to sue, they could be in the hole for a chunk of cash.
