Danish newspaper, 'Ekstra Bladet, has confessed that it and other papers have "failed to hold the government to account" for its fear-fuelling claims and statements during Denmark's Covid pandemic. Too late, they realise that they should have been "inquisitive, sceptical, and critical". Instead, they have just parroted government propaganda.

I don't think we are likely to see such a confession in our MSM.

Everything is a lie, everything!

Which of course leads to the question of what is truth.

Truth can best be described as a version of a lie which best suits the biases of the believer.

All people lie to themselves as a priority.

Why do they do that?

The answer is simply, to while away the hours before death in a zone of maximum personal comfort.

Fear has certainly played a vital role in the media
coverage of the corona-virus outbreak. The stories
published in the press often use frightening language,
phrases like - "killer virus" and "deadly disease."

Many stories concentrate on the number of deaths, and
offer local angles by reporting on fears in local areas
affected by the outbreak.

Fear can be catching. Seeing mask-wearing people in the
streets, in shops. Fearful citizens lining up in
doctor's offices, in hospital corridors as they wait
to be treated by doctors in forbidding white suits and
head-coverings.

Much of the media coverage suggests more of a reflection
of public fear than in being informative of what is
actually happening in terms of the spread of the virus.

So, at a time rife with misinformation it is worthwhile
that we all need to remain alert to the dangers of this
contagious emotion in the face of uncertainty. The media
has to take more responsibility in its reporting and
try not to increase our fears through its alarming tone
of coverage. That does not help anyone. It makes things
worse.

My opinion on conventional vs alternative is coloured by over thirty years dealing with a chronic illness. Conventional medicine offers effective and predictable treatment. Alternative medicine offers rubbish treatments and runs conspiracy theories about big pharma and medical specialists. They guilt trip their victims into following their horrible treatments, as if the disease is some sort of divine punishment requiring harsh penance, then spit them out as weak and unworthy when the inevitable happens. I have encountered many people who have suffered harm from unmanaged illness as a result of seeking alternative treatment.

My story? I tried alternative treatments for many years. They did nothing for me other than delay proper management. Eventually I noted that one conventional treatment unavailable in Australia was also an industrial chemical. I purchased this chemical from China and have been successfully managing my illness with it for over nine years at a cost of a few dollars a year. In contrast, alternative treatment is orders of magnitude more expensive and has no efficacy: If it did the practitioners would be jailed.

Dear Fester,

So glad to hear that you've got your illness under
control. I've never tried any alternative medicines.
I'm a stickler for going down the conventional route
and doing what my doctors tell me. I've been lucky thus
far with strong family support.

Dear Foxy,

I think you show very good judgement by taking the advice of your doctors. I was reluctant to take methotrexate and so sought alternatives. In hindsight I think I would have fared better with conventional medicine. Alternative medicine consists of unproven therapies, usually with no efficacy, as well as practitioners with very little medical knowledge. In the case of covid, following such advice could prove fatal.
