Labour in NZ won 55% of the vote in the 2020 pandemic elections. A year later things are not looking so rosy.

"Act NZ is the most popular party for men aged 18-49

Support for New Zealand’s Labour/Greens ‘coalition’ government was down 3.5% points to 46.5% in November as support for the Labour Party dropped 3.5% points to 36%. Support for the Greens was unchanged at 10.5%. This is the lowest level of support for Labour since the election of the Jacinda Ardern-led Government in October 2017 with 36.9% of the vote.

For the first time since the election support for the Parliamentary Opposition National/ Act NZ/ Maori Party has now overtaken the Government at 47% in November, up 3% points since October. However, it is worth noting there is no formal agreement between these three opposition parties.

Support rose for all three opposition parties with National up 0.5% points to 26.5%, Act NZ up 1.5% points to a new record high of 17.5% and support for the Maori Party hitting its highest for over five years since January 2016, up 1% point to 3%.

New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland was in an extended lockdown throughout the month of November, and it is only this week that bars, restaurants and gyms in the city are re-opening after being closed for more than three months.

The big political event in November came right at the end of the month when National Leader Judith Collins lost a vote of no confidence last week and lost the leadership of the party.

Despite the combined support of National/ Act NZ/ Maori Party overtaking Labour/ Greens for the first time in November, this has not been because of an increase in support for National. Since last year’s NZ Election National support has increased by 0.9% points while support for Act NZ has more than doubled, up by 9.9% points to 17.5%.

6.5% of electors support other minor parties outside Parliament."

The Land of the Long White Teeth is coming apart, as all Socialist-manipulated countries eventually do.

The latest absurdity is the disgraceful treatment of a group of concerned New Zealand scientists who urged that Maori myths "explaining" the nature of things – cultural mumbo-jumbo based on no empirical evidence –shouldn’t be taught in school science curricula on a par with physics, chemistry and other sciences.

When NZ Labor got a solid majority based on NZ's covid performance she set about implementing her socialist agenda and in doing so managed to piss off large sections of the community.

While NZ's environmental laws have always been lax, the new tough regulations JA introduced imposed massive costs on industries and farmers to reach compliance with very little phase-in. This combined with a new tax on high petrol consumption vehicles such as farmers' utes has the farming community who largely supported her in 2020 wanting to lynch her.

Next supposedly to lower house prices Labour banned negative gearing pissing off nearly 1m of people who invested for retirement in property, and when house prices rose further pissed off new home buyers and lower-income renters when rents skyrocketed as landlords raised rents to cover their mortgages.

Then when the delta virus came to NZ, she kept Aukland severely locked down for nearly 4 months even when clearly this wasn't working spurring protests with many 1000s of protesters.

Finally, she came up with the 3 waters plan to hand control over all water supplies and treatment to Maori control which was vigorously opposed by just about everyone.

So 1 year after winning a landslide, if an election was held today Labour could not govern even with Greens support.

And in spite of this Labour is sinking in the polls.

Polls do fluctuate and as we've learned in this
country - they are not always accurate and can
change at a moment's notice.

Political leaders are not perfect and governments often
struggle to implement their agendas but if they excel at
crisis management their poll numbers will remain robust.

The old joke goes, capturing the distrust many people
feel for both left and right:

"It doesn't matter who you vote for, a politician
always gets in."

What distinguishes Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern from
the politicians who bay at her heels is that she's who
you want in a crisis. In New Zealand's double disasters,
from The Christchurch Massacre to the Whakaari eruption,
the Prime Minister met each tragedy with immediate
action, crisp and clear communication, and an extraordinary
human care almost entirely absent in modern politics.

The PM is not perfect and her government does struggle to
implement its agenda but the one aspect where the PM and
her government does excel is dealing with an immediate
crisis. And for that most New Zealanders I believe are
thankful and therefore for the time being at least the polls
will continue to hold for her because of it.

Foxy,

Since last year's election Labour polling has been on a slow but steady decline. This is not a spike or a fluctuation and is a close reflection of the polls before the covid pandemic.

While showing empathy and dispensing hugs in the Christchurch and White Island incidents, Jacinda did nothing materially more than any other politician would have.

As for Labour's agenda, most of this is the far left socialism and woke politics that most people dislike, but with Labour's big win in 2020, they decided to press ahead with. While they anticipated burning political capital Labour they clearly never anticipated the rate at which this would happen. There are 20 odd months until the next election and Labour can't afford to piss off any more voters.

It doesn't help that most of her coalition green partners and ministers frequently have their feet in their mouths and are far from transparent.

shadowminister,

We'll have to wait and see which one of us is right
regarding Jacinda Ardern's poll ratings.
Personally I would not place all that much on polls.
They can change over night.

Moral standards in New Zealand have also fallen, their parliament having unanimously passed a bill allowing “trans people” to change their birth certificates to reflect who they”really” are.

Some Australian states have, too, apparently, but this is an entire country, the people the rest of the world see as New Zealanders. We have excuse of a ‘broken Federation’ and weird state premiers, as well as the plea that we are not “all like that”

Apathy can be normal but it can be an indicator of
underlying disease when feelings become excessive,
all-consuming, judgemental, and interfere with
daily living and rational thought processes.

In this troubled world of ours more empathy is
badly needed - especially in accepting others
for who they are - and having an open mind to our
unique differences. The next time you are around someone
who appears to be our polar opposite, challenge yourself
to get to know that person better.

New Zealanders having obviously taken that on board.

Foxy,

I wasn't making any predictions, merely stating the status quo based on several polls by reputable pollsters.

The strongest sign that Labour is seeing the writing on the wall is that in the last couple of days labour is starting to backpedal on some of their least popular policies.

SM,

The problem for New Zealanders who, like Australians, must have some sensible, responsible conservatives among them, is that the vote for the disgraceful 'change-your-birth certificate-to-suit-any old-sexual combination-that-you-fancy was passed UNANIMOUSLY by the NZ parliament, not just Ardern's ratbags. Again, like Australians, New Zealanders don't don't have much in the way of decent politicians to vote for. The leader of the opposition is probably not a lot different from Ardern. Our two party leaders are different only in degrees of stupidity. I'm not interested enough in NZ,to care, but I suspect the same applies there.

The Ardern government’s Maori activism has turned supposedly august bodies devoted to reason and the pursuit of truth into politically correct, cancel culture vassals of the government’s worldview, according to law professor, James Allan.

Shonky, you know as much about NZ politics as all the other flys on turds in the dung heap. NOTHING!

The NZ voting system, its unlikely for any party to get an absolute majority in most elections. 70 seats on a district vote simmilar to ours, and 50/52 seats on a party percentage of the total vote. Maori have 7 seats.

Pauliar,

You obviously know less than the other maggots.

"Before 1996, all MPs were directly chosen for office by the voters of an electorate. In New Zealand's electoral system, 72 of the usually 120 seats in Parliament are filled by electorate members, with the remainder being filled from party lists in order to achieve proportional representation among parties. The 72 electorates are made up from 65 general and seven Māori electorates. The number of electorates increases periodically in line with national population growth; the number was increased from 71 to 72 starting at the 2020 general election."

Given that Maori can either be on the Maori electorate or General electorate but not both, and the No of Maori seats is proportional to those registered on the Maori roll, the Maori seats make little or no difference to the total seats allocated to the major parties.

Maybe you could pull your head out of your arse before you make stupid statements.
