Its with sadness that we are greeted with the news of the death of David Dalaithngu, David was 68 years of age, a talented actor, dancer, singer and artist. A beautiful soul, who helped bridge the cultural divide, a lost to us all.

Wityana Marika, Dalaithngu's son by lore and Higher Ground actor from the Rirritjingu clan said the Yolngu man left a legacy. “He came from the bush and became our biggest and brightest star for all Yolngu people and all races. I thank him, love him, rest in peace my father.”

David Gulpilil Dalaithngu, famed Aboriginal actor,
dancer, musician, a tribal man - initiated in
tribal ways who set a foot in both cultures. Which would
have been an enormous strain on any man has died of
lung cancer at the age of 68.

His career spanned 5 decades. An accomplished didgeridoo
player he mixed with Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley. He was
feted in New York and Paris. And travelled all over the world.

I've seen all of his films. And his smile was infectious -
he shone on the screen. My Deepest sympathies go out to his
family. My prayers are with them during this difficult time.
May he RIP.

I too would like to record the sad passing of David, an accomplished actor and indigenous musical instrument virtuoso. And a fine representative for both his tribe and his race. He will be sadly missed by us all. He fought his lung cancer long and hard, and to the best of his ability, but unfortunately it ultimately took him in the end. A terrific bloke with a keen sense of humour, taken far too early at age just sixty eight years. Vale David GULPILIL DALAITHNGU.
